Hi Shelley,

I have a question about fasting. I’ve just recently come off a Master Cleanse at day 6. I had intended to go much longer but on day 6 I experienced something unexpected. As the day progressed I became more and more wired. I felt shaky and tense like I do when I have low blood sugar, yet I had so much energy I couldn’t sit, let alone stand still. This is the 2nd time this has happened to me on day 6. The first time I attributed it to other stresses in my life, but this time there was no outside factors. I treated it like I would low blood sugar, and eventually ended up eating, then eating again until it did eventually settle down. It took about 4 hrs after the first bite to eat.

I still have the high levels of energy nearly a week later, which is great. I feel like I did before I had kids. But I know from the last time it won’t last. I’d like to do an extended fast at some point for the health benefits etc, and would like your opinion on what it was that had happened and what I can do to help myself through it next time.

Hi and welcome to the forum! Smile

that's definitely not a good sign, the MC obviously isn't balanced enough for your pancreas and body type in general. There's a huge difference between having energy and "feeling wired." When one is balanced, there's no "wired" about it, there's just the ability to be calm and still or active as you wish, as appropriate to the situation. Feeling wired means either your pancreas or adrenals are exhausted due to too much simple sugar (the maple syrup), or your cells could be insulin resistant. Hyperactivity can also be due to too little calcium and magnesium, another problem with the MC.

You may be more of a metabolic type that likes to run off protein and nerve food rather than sugars. It would be best for you to do a modified cleanse. I've written up a cleanse that includes my version of the MC drink, which is more cleansing and yet more supportive OF cleansing because it includes apple cider vinegar, which is full of potassium and other essentials. It also breaks the fast much differently, as today's orange juice isn't a very healthy choice, now that most oranges come from the Amazon rather than Florida or locally.

I suspect I am insulin resistant. Sad I’m carrying around 10 lbs more than I need at the moment (left over baby weight), yet I can’t shift it. I can drop 2 lbs or 3lbs in a week by really keeping my calorie count down, but if I eat any form of refined carb it jumps back on. The last 6mths have been really frustrating. I haven’t managed to find a way of eating which eliminates refined carbs that I can stick to. So my weight has yo-yo’d.

Thanks for your advice, I’ll have a look at your cleanse and next time I feel like my body needs a little extra clean out I’ll follow your plan.

You might want to try a low-cal but high-good fats diet to help with the yo-yo's. If you live where you can get raw milk, it's quite easy to manage those cravings for carbs by drinking raw milk, if you can't get raw get cultured milk/kefir. That plus lecithin, eggs (my Protein Shake), good amounts of coconut oil and adequate protein really takes care of simple carbs cravings! And your skin will be baby soft. Smile
