Hi Shelley!
I got terribly constipated when I started kichadi and protein shakes with NYFs. I backed off of everything and am "going" again.
I'm suspected the NYFs were causing the constipation (they are a very high allergen on my blood allergy tests). But, even after stopping those I still had constipation. It wasn't until I stopped kichadi that the constipation subsided. The lentils could have been the culprit, so I'm sticking with peas in my "kichadi" (make my own little variation with quinoa or rice). (Some beans like pinto and lima also showed up as allergens in my bloodwork, so maybe lentils are a trigger for me. I'm not sure though b/c I wasn't tested for lentils.)
Also, I absolutely love the raw egg protein shakes. I seem to have a lot more energy with the additional protein. But, they give me stinky gas (pew!). I do always take digestive enzymes with them. So, I've stopped taking them and am using rice protein in my shakes.
Is there any way to address this issue so that I can continue to use eggs in my shakes? I think I've tried yolks only in the past, and I don't think I had gas. But, do too many yolks cause biotin deficiency?
If I should just avoid raw eggs, is there a protein powder that is suitable (I don't do well on whey)? I sometimes use Metagenics, but it is really expensive. I also like Nutribiotic because it seems very simple and is supposedly cold processed.
I'm waiting on my hair analysis and will soon have my annual blood work done. Slow and steady here. . .
Thanks!

Don't worry about the biotin issue.
Smelly gas means incomplete protein digestion. That indicates a lack of not only digestive enzymes, especially if they're not resolving the issue, but also of bile. Have you ever taken Taurine supplements? If you've been cutting out dairy for awhile, you coudl be low in Taurine, which is simply a protein that we need in order to make bile. Plus your liver could still be somewhat congested, and you could be low in stomach acids. All these things need to be addressed if you can't even digest two eggs without gas!
Try making the kichadi with more water. Make it soupy. Then it will pass easily. You're simply a little dehydrated, not drinking enough water, so your body takes too much from the kichadi and it gets hard to pass. Also make sure to add plenty of oils. |
