What is your opinion on this article and the credentials of Natasha Trenev?

Here is a link to the article but I also posted an excerpt below. Common sense would tell me that naturally occurring bacteria should not be a problem. Is this somewhat akin to people saying eggs are bad for you?

http://quackfiles.blogspot.com/2005/05/primal-defense-hso-probiotics-warning.html

To summarize the research briefly, soil organisms (SO) are spore formers, so they make make good competitors for yeast, fungus and other pathogens. This is why so many people taking soil organisms will initially experience very favorable results. However these spores are are extremely difficult to kill, surviving sterilants, disinfectants, acceleration forces, heat, pressure, radiation and many antibiotics. Strong antibiotics -- like Vancomycin -- can suppress certain spores. Spores are so persistent in the intestines that another round of germination may occur after the the drug is stopped. Soil organisms can also adapt loose genetic material and incorporate it into their cellular structure - the ramifications of which are yet unknown. Various soil organisms can also produce harmful peptides, affecting hemoglobin in the blood. It's important to keep in mind that virtually all antibiotic drugs were were initially developed from soil organisms and as antibiotics become more potent, they cause more damage to the host, not just in the immediate gut environment, but systematically as well.

I don't like anything that quackfiles publishes because they go way overboard to prove their point. I just don't give them the time of day. I stick to science magazines and white papers that have the least amount of agenda.

Much of what is posted in that article is taken from curezone.com. It was written by Jini Patel Thompson who had received information from Natasha Trenev. I am not familiar with quackfiles and I am not sure if those two are. I just wonder if there is any merit to what Trenev has said to Thompson.

The article is accurately portraying the life and habits of SBO's.

I don't recommend Primal Defense any more myself because they're not residents, they're transients, and if you have leaky gut they can get where they're not supposed to be.

If you can share a bottle with someone and take a couple day's worth just to speed along your recovery, go for it. Otherwise it's really not worth the expense or risk, and yes, until they do some really good research on them, it is a questionable practice to take such a high concentration of something humans have never eaten in such high concentrations before. Anything we haven't been doing for at least 10,000 years is questionable.

Unfortunately, I'm not able to edit the FAQ anymore, so anytime I say Primal Defense, switch it to Kefir for me. Wink

Thanks for the good answer. I do not know if I have leaky gut but I might. I will use them very sparingly.

Actually, now that I think about it, I bought a container that has 216 pills and after reading your reply they do not seem that attractive to me anymore. I wonder if the Vitamin Shoppe will take them back and give me a refund if it is open.

It's worth a try. OH and I meant to mention, to be fair, that GofL does culture the friendly SBOs and not the pathogenic ones. I doubt you'll find any of the ones that affect hemoglobin in their formula.

Sorry to dwell on this, and this question calls for speculation, but what is the worst that could happen if these bacteria went places they should not? Would it be like getting an infection?

The spores thing is weird to. I always thought of spores as being the way mold reproduces. Are these bacteria similar to that?

A very temporary infection that doesn't call for any other action. I exhibited a rash on my thigh when I took primal defense while I had leaky gut.
