Hi Shelley

was wondering if you could offer some insight
My wife and I are trying to get pregant
She is 35 I am 47
We are trying the IVF route as my sperm count is only about 20M

My wife is on day 6 of Gonal F injections and just called me
very emotional. Seems she has only 2 follicles that are responding and Doc thinks we should try the IUI route instead of IVF

He has mentioned to her beforehand hand that she would be a good responder, but not so.....

Any thoughts, causes etc

Hi Towzer!

Okay, my take on fertility is this: you can't fool mother nature. If your bodies are not properly cleansed and nourished, you're not ready to be pregnant.

Nutritional deficiencies and toxicity cause the body to do a kind of triage, and one of the very first things to be let go and let die is reproductive ability because that is not life-threatening, it is life-protecting, and a body that is not vital cannot carry and grow a perfectly healthy child anyway. One of the first places a woman will store toxins is in the uterus.

If you try to bypass mother nature with these procedures it may cost you later on in ramifications to your child and your wife's health and abillity to deal with and recover from the stress of pregnancy.

Doctors will say do this and do that because that's how they get paid. You have to start being a father NOW and consider whether you're being a good father to your child to be and good husband to your wife. Perhaps it would be better to wait six months, finish cleansing, and go on a really good tonifying/rebuilding protocol. There are SO so many things you can do to increase sperm count, motility, healthy eggs and uterus.

The Weston A Price foundation (www.westonaprice.org) and Nourishing Traditions book are great places to start. They have preserved the tribal wisdom - much of which was all about how to keep the tribe fertile - that we have mostly forgotten and doctors tend to ignore. And if you're interested I can give you a list of nutrients/herbs to accent once your livers are clean and ready for vitamin supplements.

Okay, good.

Be sure to read the posts in the Rebuilding/Bodybuilding forum and FAQ on what tonifying foods to accent. A lot of these, like the protein shake, you can eat while cleansing, but most should wait until you've done a month's worth of bowel management and two weeks' worth of liver management and your tongue is clean, no coat.

Then to increase fertility for you and your wife, you can take herbs as powder pills (Two capsules a day) or tincture (one dropperful a day) or teas (one to two cups a day).

Both of you might want to take:
Astralagus - increases sperm motility, helps the ovaries too. Should be able to take for a month. Shouldn't need more than that.
Gotu Kola - overall rejuvenator for the brain, nervous system and reproductive system. One month.
Ashwaganda - overall rejuvenator

Your wife might want to take: false unicorn, Vitex - Julia's website has "Fem-Mate" which is great. Has Vitex.

Both of you should take a complete B complex, get plenty of EFA's and the rest of the Skin Food.

Cod liver oil is essential, daily, as is kelp, and occasional caviar.

Colloidal minerals and/or full-spectrum mineral supplement would be good for both of you. Daily, long-term. Should have Selenium.
Find a good liquid zinc and take max doses daily.

Calcium, magnesium, zinc plus Inositol helps create healthy sperm. Calcium should be taken 500 mg at a time, 2x a day. The rest can vary.

L-arginine increases sperm count. Can take indefinently.

Gland caps - raw ovarian glandular for your wife, raw orchic glandular for you, take just for 2 weeks. Very powerful. You can go ahead and take a full-spectrum glandular support if that's all you can find. Solaray has a good one.

Drink fresh-squeezed pineapple juice, as much as you are comfortable with for several days out of every two weeks. Dilute it with soda water and add the juice of one inch of ginger root for a tasty drink full of folic acid and bromelain. Juice or eat grapefruit on some of the other days.

Have carrot juice with a handful of cilantro or parsley, spinach or kale, as often as possible. You can add other things as you like to this juice, just be sure to have a handful or two of 1-2 greens at least. Add cream to the carrot juice or follow it with an olive oil chaser - just a spoonful. You need fats to induce bile so the beta-carotene converts to vit A and minerals are absorbed.

Get a B12 shot once a month or as directed by your physician. DO try to get a physician who's either an osteopath or naturopath and has a good background in nutrition to help you thru this. It would be great if they know how to do applied kinesiology. You need a smart, supportive team of advisors who look at the whole person to support you in reaching your goal. That way, if you decide to re-try any of the fertilization techniques six months from now you'll know for sure that you've done everything you can to ensure a healthy child and that kind of confidence really does work wonders.

Reduce or avoid gluten grains. They irritate tissues, especially mucus membranes, and so makes it more difficult for the eggs to develop and sperm to get where they need to go.

See if you can find raw, organic, unhomogonized goat milk and enjoy that occasionally.

Hope that helps! Smile
