Dear Shelley,

I have spent the past two nearly three years suffering with melasma. It started after coming off of anti-depressants and after a huge amount of stress. I have always had painful heavy periods which gradually got worse and worse to the point I actually passed out at work with the pain. I had a Mirena IUD inserted despite not having any children to stop the pain which took a year to settle. I have always suffered from candida also and was anorexic for many years along with always taking some form of antibiotic for sinus problems. My melasma started above my top lip moving to my cheeks and this year despite being on herbal medicine from a qualified herbalist it is spreading to my arms. I wake up upset every morning because of it and feel unattractive and my relationship with my boyfriend has suffered too. Since developing melasma I have been eating a sensible vegetarian diet avoiding soya as i know this is full of oestrogen, I also am trying to avoid sweet things and chocolate, I do not drink caffeine as I am allergic. I am not sure if the cause is hormones or copper toxicity. My herbalist gave me a remedy to balance hormones although she said it may not work as I have a IUD. I have also taken MSM, Ester C, Zinc and Selenium and B Complex with folic acid and flaxseed oil for nearly two years. I really don't know what to do and am thinking of having my IUD removed although the melasma started before I had it fitted. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. I just long for normal skin again and to be able to go out in the sunshine without worrying about my skin getting worse.

Thank you for your time.

Suzi
