Hi Shelley,

I have read your reservations about protein powders and recently encountered a product that might address some of your concerns - the attached link provides all the details but in summary, the main (>50%) component of the protein blend is 'micellar casein' which the manufacturer claims is undenatured and is vastly superior to the protein in other products.

I'd be very interested to hear your views.

Thanks a lot,

Dave

Have you checked out Nutiva's products? They have a pretty good organic hemp protein powder. http://www.nutiva.com/products/0_protein.php

if their source is pasteurized milk, and I do not see how they could be accepting raw, for insurance and legal reasons as much as anything else, the casein will be denatured just from that.

Casein is the most difficult protein to digest. It is one of the reasons why I recommend kefir over regular milk if you can't get raw milk. It's one of the main reasons, second only to the milk sugars, that people have a problem with milk. It is mucus forming. When they talk about it lining the intestines, that's what they mean - it's adding to your mucus there. Now if you have very clean intestines with a healthy layer of mucus or have just been scouring your intestines with fiber shakes, this would be a good idea. If you have never cleansed and have tons of bad mucus, this would add to your load of mucoid placque and Ama/toxins.

The body will build muscles as needed, all it needs is enough calories and at least 20%-40% of those calories depending on the basal metabolic rate coming from protein sources. Mother nature has been making muscles since long before humans even existed on this planet and she never needed special protein powders in order to do so.

Ah, so even undenatured 'micellar' casein is mucus forming and therefore not recommended. That's a shame, the protein powder in question does taste very good. It was a convenience measure really plus the reports from users have been universally good.

I have been using your protein shake up to now (almond milk, 3 raw egg yolks, lecithin and a tablespoon of an oil blend) and will continue to do so.

It might be nice to have around on the days you need to avoid eggs - it's a good idea to have egg-free/chicken free days about once or twice a week so you don't become allergic to it. My reservations with protein powders are mostly with relying on them frequently because of their many imperfections, but there are times when they are helpful, like eggless days or for when you just cannot find time to cook and need a quick boost. If your tongue isn't coated at all then it should be okay. Smile

Hi Shelley,
This site is awesome!!! I have one question, how do you feel about Vega Protein made by Sequel. I am a vegetarian and have been taking hemp protein and switched to vega protein. What about Goat protein? I also have Candida....are these supplements safe for me.
Thanks Shelley
