Hi Shelley Very Happy

I went to the dentist for my 6 monthly check up today. The dentist wanted to take 2 x-rays of my teeth - not becasue he could find anything wrong, but because he said that the new government guidelines tell him to do this because he can check for tooth decay under fillings and bridges (I have plenty). Anyway, I refused.

What is the harm? I just have a gut feeling that it wouldn't be beneficial.

I have around 14 silver fillings in my mouth, 1 bridge and a few crowns (not many teeth that haven't had some work done on it!) Most of the dental work started 30 years or so ago, and I really don't know if I'm suffering from metal toxicity or not.

There's no way I can afford to get changes done to my mouth right now and I don't feel like I want to be subjected to a 2 year removal and replacement programe either.

I don't suffer from the typical brain fog/M.E type symptoms that are associated with mercury poisoning. I do, however suffer from adult acne and have poor healing, hence scars on my face (not sure if this could be put down to fillings though).

My questions are:
1. How dnagerous are x-rays in the mouth? What effects do they produce?
2. How can I check for signs of metal toxicity? (I'm confused about hair analysis - and since I dye my hair, surely that wouldn't be an effective test??)
3. How can I have my kids avoid ever having to have any type of filling? (currently, they use non-flouride/non-alluminium, organic toothpase, also very limited sugary snacks, xylitol gum before bed)

Thanks for your (or anyone else's)

advice!

X-rays of the mouth aren't near as bad as lung x-rays, about equivelent to 4 hours in the sun. But you're right, if you don't plan on having any procedures done, might as well not do the scans! My current take on my teeth is any problem beyond a very simple filling and they are simply pulled. Getting them pulled is actually relatively cheap, even from an oral surgeon.

You can read up on the symptoms for metals toxicity. The dead giveaways to me are:

Hypothyroid with no family history of it
numbness and tingling in hands/feet even tho kidneys test out fine and not dehydrated
mental and emotional troubles that can't be explained by diet or candida, especially brain fog, inability to remember things, ADHD
Chronic Vertigo/dizzyness
Metallic taste in mouth
Lots of allergies, CFS, fibromyalgia.

Cavities are only partially prevented by taking good care of the teeth. The main prevention is an alkaline diet. As soon as the body becomes too acidic, teeth start pulling things inside from their environment. Their regular flow (teeth are quite porous) is from the interior to exterior, but this gets switched in an acidic body as the body tries to establish balance and get the acids out.

Healthy teeth also depend on plenty of calcium and Vitamin D in proper proportion to phosphorous.

I don't seem to have much of that - well, very little of it anyway.

Thanks for the info on xrays - the dentist looked at me as if I was mad for refusing!

I/m wondering why i don't have metal toxicity though. Does that mean my liver works well?

We all have different proclivities, and that includes weaknesses and susceptibility. Some people simply aren't as susceptible to amalgam poisoning as others. If everyone were susceptible, we would have found out about how bad they can be way before now. Including adequate fats and liquids in our diets is a HUGE help to dealing with such toxins. Cleansing the liver takes care of a lot too. Smile
