Cat's Hairballs

I guess it's the season for these things to make their appearance, but what can be done to try to eliminate them? I'm coming home to find a new one about every day. I've bought that expensive cat food that supposedly helps with the hairballs, but it doesn't seem to work too well. Can you give cats digestive enzymes?

Our Cat used to have hairballs...and yes it is often related to poor stomach/digestion.
Since my wife and I have been making our own Kefir- -Using Kefir grains+Organic full fat milk- we have been feeding a saucer of Kefir also to our cat.That coupled with a couple of cod liver oil gelatine/capsules.(emptied out on a saucer also,(fed apart from the Kefir) will really get his/her stomach acids/digestion stoked!
Our Cat has had NO hairball problems at all since!
I know the stories about cats and dogs; "Do not give them cows milk".
There is a commercially prepared "Milk" (I believe an amino acid added called Taunine to aid digestability..blah blah..
Anyway, bottom line...We tried using Pet/cat enzymes...No result..the cat didn`t enjoy his food(Had to disguise it) ...(poor thing).

So,one day a light went on(Ping!),.."If ,as Shelley rightly informs us,we as humans can`t/shouldn`t use milk(Pasturized/Homogenized-Which is dead /void of all it`s good enzymes....But we can/should certainly consider using fermented milk(Kefir) for all it`s wonderfull properties. (Probiotics etc)...then we looked at the cats enzyme bottle..one of the ingredients was a Probiotic..So we thought;"Why not feed the Cat with it also!"
The rest is history LOL!
