I had a luncheon this week with a group I am studying with,
It is a varied mix of cultural backgrounds and we did a pot luck.
It was great
I asked everyone to bring a dish that was cultural to their background.
I was super surprised by a delicious rice dish from India.
and a bit miffed that I had no idea that the rice I had been buying as basmati rice is really an americanized type. True Indian basmati rice is awesome.
The dish was curried and had Garam Masala and curried chicken.
I will by buying that rice at the store they buy it from from now on.
oh and there was Saffron Cake wow . ( way off protocol, but I had a very small piece) I didn't want to miss the opportunity.

Harmony,
I'm so glad you posted this. I have noticed in my local supermarket that they carry 3 types of basmati. I have bought the Jasmati and the American Basmati. I noticed that they also have the Indian Basmati, so I guess that is the "true" basmati....?
