Hi Shelley,
I've read about the negative effects of coffee (mineral leeching, increasing blood glucose, adrenal stim., etc.). I've also read recently that it can prevent gallstones. What's your opinion? Should we stay away from coffee? can we get away with drinking it in moderation?
I ask because I looove drinking coffee. I've been coffee-free for 6 months but recently started drinking small amounts (6 oz) of it for the past week. i mainly started drinking it b/c i found that it really helps with my BMs - better and quicker than psyllium, senna and lots of fruits and veg.
thanks-

That's a good question. I don't think I've addressed the coffee issue yet in this forum, but I do plan on having a how to cheat with coffee chapter in the book for the forum.
Coffee and caffeine in general is a big help to regular BMs, especially for Kapha people who tend to have slow digestions/metabolism.
Kapha people can handle coffee best. It's still better as an occasional treat rather than every day dose, and if you have it every day try to keep to 2 cups or less then switch to peppermint tea or even Green tea. Try to have JUST green tea a couple days a week.
Coffee is actually okay if it's black. But when you add milk and sugar, they bind to the alkaloids in a way that is quite imbalancing, sigh. So watch out for that.
I'm a Vata, already have tons of nervous energy, so coffee makes me insane. Our body types determine a lot of how much "cheating" we can do.
To offset the inevitable mineral drain, get the Liquid Colloidial Trace Mineral Concentrace. I tend to just call it Concentrace because that's what you see most on the bottle's label. I have a link to the product I mean in the fAQ. You really should be taking 1/2 a teaspoon to 1 whole teaspoon a day, and a good all-around mineral supplement from Solary too occasionally, or something like Cal-Mag-Zinc, Cal-Mag-Fizz.
Hope that helps! |

Hi Shelley ... What about espresso ??
(since that's strong black coffee brewed by forcing hot water under pressure through finely ground coffee beans)
Does the same thing apply ?? Is it better ... worst ??
I drink it in a latte style, yeps lots milk and sugar
but it's so delicious !!!
Thanks a bunch !! |
