Grapeseed oil is one of the good ones. Oh dear, I think I forgot to put it in my food table. Hmmm. If you plan on deep frying (horrors! LOL!) then you should use grapeseed instead of peanut. You can't use olive, it has too low a smoking temperature.

I like it, it's very clean tasting. Several months ago I experimented with making Beignets - often if I can't travel to someplace yet, I will 'visit' them by making the cuisine you can only get there, and I've yet to see New Orleans - and the grapeseed oil was great to work with. And the little donuts came out great. Smile

Hi Shelley

So, for high heat frying, grapeseed oil is best? Apart from coconut and ghee, what other oils are good for over baking and frying? Thanks.

Those are the best for frying, stir-frying. Medium or lower pan frying I like to use a combo of butter and olive oil, 50/50, tastes great. Works especially well with pasta and fish. yummmmmmmm. Wink

For baking I tend to use Safflower oil. Olive oil has a bit too much flavor for most chiffon cakes, but safflower is very clean. I bet grapeseed would be good too, but it's SO expensive!!! Safflower is cheap. It's not the greatest oil health wise, but it's great cooking wise in its versatility.

If the recipe calls for butter I use butter. I would use lard, but lard is no longer good now that most ranchers feed pigs soy and corn.

I'll have to see if Trader Joe's has grapeseed. I can get olive oil very cheap, good oil too, but have yet to see good grapeseed for cheap.
