No posts? I guess people don't like to relax here?
I can't think of anything healthier to do with free time than create art. It grounds you in the here and now and engages your subconscious in the healthiest thing it could possibly do. You don't have to be a fancy pants limp wristed artist to create art. Draw, paint, sculpt, make music, sing, write, whatever, anyone can do it, should do it, and needs to do it. It doesn't matter if it's "good", someone elses perception of your work has nothing to do with art. You can't bottle that little voice in your head up and let ego run your life, that's how you get sick not healthy. You need to connect with and explore the part of you that creates art, it's vital to healing. |

I think the act of creation is essential for vital health. My favorite outlet has been fractal art, using ultra-fractal, a very cheap and excellent piece of software. Since I can't draw but I can use a mouse, this has been an excellent outlet for me and I encourage anyone who loves color and shape to give it a try!

| I totally AGREE, Abraham! I am a TV journalist and writer but also dabble in art, these are my creative outlets for healing. When you allow your emotions to flow it is amazing what one can create. I belong to an international art movement called Zooid and I welcome any artists/musicians/photographers and creative types to join us. The Zooid art movement is free of course and we work very hard as a group to have work displayed (and sold) all over the globe. Check out http://www.zooidart.com/ |

Art is what keeps me sane. I recently bought a kiln and am doing fused glass art. I love the colors and I get to play with power tools!!!
Sometimes I get stressed and I just go into my little studio in the utility room and start cutting glass and assembling pieces for the kiln. It's so relaxing I can get lost in it for hours. When inspiration hits, it's like I can't get home or down to the studio fast enough to try out my idea.
It's relaxing and empowering to make a thing of beauty.

I like to do watercolours. I went to a class for about a year and half, and enjoyed it, but can't get there any more. I MUST do more at home, its so relaxing, even if I can't paint a masterpiece. The time just flies, I catch myself humming, and it satisfies a creative urge in me.
I also like gardenning, digging, pruning, planting etc. It's exercise without a gym, cost efficient, and gets me out the house, but not in this weather! |

The Japanese say that if you garden an hour a day you will stay young and healthy all your life. |

| samflo, sound like you have a big garden! Have you got your rescued hens now? I spent some time gardening over the w/e, wore myself out and really enjoyed it. I'd been meaning to get out there for a couple of weeks but hadn't felt like it. Once I start I can't stop! |
