Beware of any cleansing/detox program that says to avoid fats. Someone didn't do their research.

Many toxins are fat-soluble, which means they need fats as a transport system, it's the car that parks them and the car that drives them out. They can be released with the interstitial fluids that get released with perspiration.

Toxins can damage cells easier if they are not protected by fat. Cells are much less flexible. Consider leather car seats without lanolin or some kind of oil to act as protection - same thing with our cells.

Toxins must be metabolized by the liver. The liver digests these compounds with bile and then cleanses itself of the by-products by releasing bile. For it to release bile, there must be fats involved.

For the body to shed toxins, it needs to sacrifice a lot of our personal mineral stores. These need to be replenished, and they require fats for good absorption.

So if you think you have to eat a tasteless, low-fat diet in order to cleanse, rest assured you don't! Very Happy The people who are going that route are failing to cleanse a most important organ - our filter, the liver.

Anything good is bad in the wrong dose. Even water can kill you if you drink too much all at once.

To do oils right, CYCLE them. don't just rely on olive oil because it's not as balanced with its Omega 3's and Omega 5's as it should be for optimal health. Use it for cooking, but occasionally use something different for raw uses, like occasionally use instead Flax/Udo's Choice in your salad dressings and smoothies, Wheat Germ Oil (tasteless and very rich in E), or a nut oil like almond, walnut. Use coconut either raw or cooked. Ghee is great for cooking. Every oil has different pluses and minuses, so cycling enhances the former and reduces the latter.

So I have been on a 3 day juice, green foods, and fruit smoothie fast. I added heavy cream to my fruit smoothie. Is this a good idea during a cleanse?

I also read in another forum you recommended black beans for protein with rice. However, you said canned? I thought canned foods pretty much had no nutrients left in them. Are beans different?

Thanks
Katie

canned foods are okay when they're beans and corn, some fruit. Just not great for veggies apart from root veggies.

Cream is not cleansing. Why are you adding it to a fruit drink? You should add it to carrot but not necessarily to fruit.

I added it to the fruit because I remembered you saying you eat berries and frache (spelling?). Maybe I remembered incorrectly. I also added it to make it thicker instead of bananas. So are bananas ok? I heard they are constipating.

bananas are not cleansing, they are tough on the liver and have very slow transit times. They're a cure for diarrhea, in fact.

Yep, berries and creme fraiche is one of my favorite meals, but it's best for rebuilding not cleansing. Smile

Ok, So it IS healthy if I am using fruit smoothie with cream for rebuilding, and for cleansing leave the cream out. Just to clarify. Funny thing is I had HUGE detox despite the cream I added.

oh yes that makes sense, because fruit juice and cream is pretty much the equivelent to a liver flush! I just don't tend to recommend using dairy for that because most people react with mucus, which mucks things up.
