I tried the calmag fizz supplement a while back but it didnt agree with me.
I am on the candida diet and the only calcium i get is from veggies/beans and nuts.
I have symptoms of calcium defficiency as described in your last post on phosphorus/calcium imbalance and also as described on Acu-cell (that site is the BOMB! Thank you Shelley).
What with me being prone to kidney stones, which form of calcium would you suggest i try?
I thought maybe a citrate or some form of chelated cal but im not sure as there are so many and funds are quite low so i cant buy loads of types to try out.
I did notice that my health food shop sells vanilla rice milk with added calcium.
Would that be ok to use occasionaly too?
Thanks Shelley

If you take a hair mineral profile you will most likely discover that you have an *excess* of calcium in your tissues. What is happening is that your body is unable to utilize calcium (due to candida). Supplementing with additional dietary caclium will only aggrevate this issue. If you want to supplement a mineral you should supplement magnesium (calcium and magnesium levels need to be balanced).
Very few people are truly deficient in calcium, as calcium is abundant in food. Magnesium is far less available (especially in todays mineral depleted food), and less easily absorbed.
The important thing with minerals is balance. A hair mineral profile will tell you not only if you are lacking (or have an excess) in certain minerals but will also tell you which of your mineral ratios are off.
I bet you anything that you are high in Calcium and low in Magnesium. |

Hi Troy
Well i did actually get a hair miner analysis done back in september 04.
It said that all my levels were normal and within range.
I was not convinced as i knew there was definately something wrong so i went to Biolab and had a sweat analysis done a few weeks after.
I had a major magnesium defficiency!
I also had a kelmer test for mercury and a mercury sensitivity test and finally got the results i had waited months for.
I was very sensitive to mercury and the kelmer test also said i was excreting ridiculously amounts of mercury after taking just 3 DMSA tablets.
My illness started after having 12 silver amalgams put in and now after 14 months of illness i am almost mercury free except for 3 teeth which will be sorted on thursday next week
Anyway i started to take magnesium straight away and it helped me immensly.
I went back a while ago and had another sweat test and i am now in normal range.
I dont see how a hair analysis can be very accurate!
If i were to have one for every day of the week i bet that the results would be different every time!
It didnt pick up my magnesium defficiency at all, in fact it said my mag levels were tetering on being too high
I could have another hair test done to check my calcium levels but i feel i would be throwing my money down the toilet.
I have read that candida snitches magnesium from the body and yes you are correct on supplementing it as many people are defficient in magnesium however the symptoms of cal/mag defficiency/toxicity are very similar!
Seeing as i am already supplementing mag i thought these symptoms would be calcium related, hence i am looking for a good easily absorbable calcium supplement that will not cause any kidney probs i.e stones.
Any ideas |

Hi,
I use calcium enriched rice milk and find it helps. Also tinned salmon occasionally is good (with the bones), plenty of dark leafy greens eg cabbage, kale and broccolli and seaweeds eg dulse, wakame are very high in both cal and mag. Also I take ionic minerals which are greatly absorbed (from Metabolics - 01380 812799)

Taking calcium won't necessarily contribute to stones, especially if the calcium is ionic or a combinatin of calcium lactate, citrate and carbonate. The stuff that forms kidney stones is the calcium your body pulls from your bones, which is easily crystalized.
To keep calcium liquid, you have to take a calcium supplement that has half as much magnesium and phosphorous and Vitamin D, and then add about 500 mg of C. That will ensure that the calcium does not form stones.
There's a Rice Dream that is fortified with calcium and D and a few other things, an Almond Dream too, broccoli, spinach, kale, cilantro... |
