Hey Shelley - nice place ya got here! Good to see you back.
What is your take on the optimal amount of vitamin C we should take every day? So far I'm taking EmergenC and ascorbic acid powder, totaling about 9 grams per day. Do you accept the theory that we modern humans don't need megadoses of vitamin C, or that we do because we either used to produce megadoses in our bodies like most other animals, or we got megadoses from our caveman diets. In other words, is megadosing on vitamin C putting me back at my natural state as a human, or is it an unnatural treatment that might have negative side effects later because humans might not be designed to take so much vitamin C?
Thanks! |

the body likes homeostatis, a state of balance, so I don't think anyone should be taking Vit c every day, except from whole foods. I do endorse taking something like EmergenC or Ester-C about 3x weekly, and to have periods of "Vit C Flushes" especially if exposed to a lot of smog, petrochemicals, pesticides and the like.
If you overdose on C constantly the body will simply start shedding it at an amazing rate and you end up with signs of deficiency once again! So dose occasionally in order to allow the body days of easy homeostasis and to ensure that the body really does in fact need it.
And as always it's a good idea to use kinesiology to see if it really is appropriate for you, as large doses are not good for certain body types. 500 mg will help increase stomach acid in a safe way, and EmrgenC has 2,000 mg I think, which is why you don't need it daily really. |

EmergenC has 1,000 mg
Shelley - how much extra Vit C does a smoker need? Plus are there other supplements that a smoker needs to take?
Thanks! |

| Oh a chronic ciggie smoker would do well to take Vit C just about every day, yepperz! And get plenty of good oils, preferably coconut and olive and butter. Mostly they have to drink a LOT of fluids. So 500-1000 mg if they want to take it regularly/daily. And something like Livatone Plus. |

RE: Homeostasis
Where does that leave multivitamins which contain Vitamin C? Or multivitamins at all for that matter?
P.S. Shelley, love the new site! |

Vitamin C is the only one that has the rebound affect, that you have to go off of slowly.
My advice on vitamin supplementation is to eat real food first and foremost, and after that, concentrated foods or super foods like sprouts, super-green supplements, cod liver oil, wheat germ oil, nutritional yeast, organ meats, eggs, noni juice, chwanprash, aloe.
People have really done themselves harm with vitamin pills. Most are bunk.
Electrolytes/macrominerals should be supplemented because it's how we stay alkaline and electric (a car doesn't run w/o a battery and neither does the body).
B12 should because the ramifications of deficiency are severe. nerve damage is the worst thing to have to deal with, especially if it leads to dementia. The other B's are used in so many ways that I recommend taking EmergenC or Ester-C because it has good amounts and a usable form of Bs.
So glad you like the site! Be sure to take the poll in the feedback forum. |
