I will be posting food choice guidelines for your Dosha, and there are many references on the Internet. But it's important to remember that even if a food isn't appropriate for your Dosha, it's still okay for you to enjoy it occasionally. Totally prohibiting a food is the kind of extremism that I simply do not like getting into when it comes to the maintenance stage.
During the cleansing/tonifying stages, certain foods are so therapeutic that even if they are not Dosha appropriate you should include them. For instance, vinegars are not always recommended for Vata types, and hot spices not good for Pitta people, but ACV and Cayenne are so very helpful and healing that they are entirely appropriate for therapeutic purposes no matter what your Dosha is.
So keep in mind that some foods are beyond Dosha. When it comes to important whole foods like avocado, asparagus, artichokes, beets, carrots, sweet potatoes, bitter greens, fermented veggies, kefir/yogurt, be sure to include them in your diet no matter what your Dosha is. Simply take care to prepare them in such a way as to make them more dosha appropriate. For instance, a Kapha person would be better off eating asparagus cooked with garlic and very little salt and just a dash of oil, while a Pitta person would be better off eating it with Ghee and salt. |
