Hey Shelley!
I am currently looking into the different options for amalgam replacement. And to be honest I am dismayed. I thought for sure there would be something that seems decent, but it seems like if it's not the bloody mercury its another thing with dentistry. The best I have seemed to find is CEREC porcelain. Apparently they are very hardy and don't leak, plus the technology they use allows for an exactly precise fit. They are very strong and last at least 15 years. Here is an example of ingredients in CEREC (msds)::
GLASS POWDER 65997-17-3 55 - 65
METHACRYLATED PHOSPHORIC ACID ESTERS None 15 - 25
TRIETHYLENE GLYCOL DIMETHACRYLATE (TEGDMA) 109-16-0 10 - 20
SILANE TREATEAD SILICA 122334-95-6 1 - 5
SODIUM PERSULFATE 7775-27-1 1 - 5
DIURETHANE DIMETHACRYLATE 72869-86-4 2 - 8
WATER 7732-18-5 2 - 8
This seems to be one of the better options, but it's 550-1100 bucks a tooth! And I've got four. Aargh! Sometimes it seems like the expenses never end. But anyways, the other option is the composites, which only last 7-10 years max, aren't as strong, and apparently can shrink and allow micro leakage, which can lead to problems. The main issue I have with these, however, is that pretty much all of 'em contain aluminum, barium, and many contain fluoride. And the fact that they got the Biphenol-A, that chemical that is an endocrine-disruptor. Apparently they are finding out that iit is very toxic even at very low levels. It is these that concern me the most.
I guess what I'm wondering is, do you think I'm overeacting? I have two composites in my mouth right now so 4 replacements would equal 6 in total. Do these sound like things that are manageable to you? I kno it's hard to tell and everyone's different, but I would be really discouraged if I spent all this money and ended up with all kinds of new problems. I suppose however that anythings a million times better than mercury. What do you think? |

Yep, the whole "must replace fillings" thing isn't something I support all that much. You can do easier things like simply pulling them out if you really do have problems with them, that's quite cheap and totally solves the problem apart from not having teeth there now heh. But really all you need to do is make sure your body can handle the toxins.
There are way more toxins in the air in the average metropolitan area than there are in your teeth, so to focus on one's teeth just seems a waste of time if you're not going to go around filtering your air too! One week's commute to work and you've inhaled more toxins than your teeth can ever offer you.
If you suspect you're one of those people with wonky mercury/heavy metals, take the RDA for Selenium, Nickel and Tin for ten days to a month. Take Cal-Mag Fizz too. That will give your body what it needs to maintain proper ratios so that the mercury, aluminum, copper, never get to the point where they muck your immune system up. If you think you need to cleanse some heavy metals, take time-release ALA, about 50 mgs, and keep it in your systm around the clock for 3 days. Take milk thistle to protect the liver and plenty of fluids to protect the kidneys if you do this.

Thanks so much Shelley. I feel better now!
I thought you'd say something along those lines. I've decided to just go with composite fillings and not stress about the contents. I'll find out exactly what is in them and do my best to reduce my non-teeth exposure of those toxins in the future, plus extra liver cleansing or whatever other measures will help. I did not react to the two composites I have in right now anyways. Besides, so much hype about bisphenol-a, it's like well we have so much exposure in every other plastic product and its not like the entire country is sterile or something. I may get them upgraded in the future when I have more money, hopefully in 5 or 10 years or so better materials will be available. I'm still young and all, my body is strong, I have symptoms but I'm not like ill to the point of being feeble.
I do however feel that I am susceptible to the amalgams, and I really do believe the mercury has got to go. I have done a bunch of cleansing but I still have symptoms, many of them classic mercury ones, that never really improved at all. Worst of all being the brain fog/memory issues. I just cannot think clearly; I can tell that my mental capabilities are being significantly hindered... don't know how I survived school! lol. Plus my hair test showed mineral wonkiness fit the profile for mercury toxicity. So I'm gettin' them out and after three months gonna try out some chelation per Cutler's recommendation. For the time being I'm reading thru his Amalgam Illness. It's good! Nyways, thanks as always. |

| people with persistent brain fog/mental confusion despite balancing candida and cleansing the liver need to research their tolerances/needs in terms of MSM/Sulfur and Selenium. It could be the mercury in the fillings leached you of both. |

Very interesting. I know a bit about the sulfur/mercury connection but I didn't know it could leach it, or about the selenium. I will def check that out. Btw, I did find a bisphenol-a free filling! So that makes me happy. |
