hi
when i read the following excerpt from daniel reids book "the tao of detox" i remembered your protein shake, which i like...
what do you think about his arguments, because this is basicly what is done in your protein shake...
"fat such as butter and oil may be combined with most carbohydrates and all vegetables, but they should not be combined with concentrated animal proteins such as meat and eggs. fat impairs the digestion of meat in the stomach by inhibiting the required gastric secretions. consequently for 2 to 3 hours after ingesting significats amount of fat levels of pepsin and hydrochloric acid in the stomach are sharply reduced, resulting in the putrefacation of any meet or eggs eaten along with the fat. you should therefore eat fats and proteins separately, or combine only very small amounts of one with normal portions of the other and avoid eating "marbled" meats such as bacon and fatty steaks." |

It's completely rediculous. Any time you see things like this, apply the test of the ages: go back 10,000 years or more to our original diets, what the human body adapted to, what was available then. Do you think our ancestors had a way of eating protein without eating fats at the same time? NO WAY!!! Did they suffer? Obviously not! We're here, aren't we?
The body knows what to do. It knows how to adjust the timing of passing the food from the stomach to the small intestine and further on. Yes, fats slow down digestion, but we LIKE that because we get to feel fuller longer. Just try eating protein without fats - it's like eating Chinese food. You need to eat again in an hour! What a major pain.
I've listed the only food combination rules that stand the test of biology and history. You can ignore the rest. The main one is, small meals, particularly if high-fat. That's why the protein shake is an entire meal and should not be combined with other meals except for maybe a little hot cereal or kichadi, but only if you've taken the time to raise your digestive power. |

thank you shelley,
can i take the protein shake daily?
and is there a way to substitude the rice milk? its really expensive and hard to get where iam...
there are some of these combination rules which trace me since years.... and i still dont know if they are correct, but they are really annoying, like
dont combine sugar with whole grain. (bread)
dont combine salt with raw whole grain or raw nuts.
dont combine fruit acid with vegetables or whole grain (bread)
what do you think about them?
all the best |

Rice milk is very easy to make, and quite cheap if you're willing to buy large bags of rice. You can find recipes on the 'net easy enough, you just need a blender. You can substitute soy milk but I don't recommend it, it leaches minerals. Nut milk may also be used. Horchata is usually too sweet.
You can take it daily no problem, but do give yourself a break every now and again if you do. The body can become allergic to foods if you eat the same thing every day long enough.
The only combination rules I recommend people following are the ones regarding melons. Eat them alone, apart from meals. Raw fruits will almost always cause fermentation. You can tell it happens because you fart. If you're not farting (or only the amount you have to due to eating certain proteins) and your stools look smooth and regular, you're eating right. Nothing to worry about. |
