Hi Shelley,

I want to make fiber shakes, but I've read on your site that people who might have high estrogen should not take in flax seeds.

Also, I don't do so well on psyllium (can handle a small amount).

What do you recommend for the fiber shake? Julia Chang recommends plantago seeds, but they're small, like mustard seeds. Should I grind them first?

Thanks!
sg

p.s. I'm not sure if this happens to anyone else, but I get insatiably hungry if I take in flax OIL. Any other form seems to be ok, but not oil.

If you eat kichadi, that's a fiber shake right there. You can always drink a bit of kefir afterwards to make it more of a probiotic shake, it's already very cleansing.

People who don't do well with psyllium should try the new clear fibers like benefiber if they wish to avoid flax seeds. But it really depends on what you're trying to DO with the fiber shake which one you use.

Hi Shelley,

Thanks for your response!

I was going to use the fiber shake during a cleanse/fast when I decide to do one, but not during regular eating because I do eat so many veggies. I guess I was looking for something to keep things "moving."

Plus, if I take an herbal laxative (have tried Schultze IF1 and Colon Clenz) I get insatiably hungry (I'm like a little pac man all day). This used to happen when I would take flax oil so I stopped that years ago. I was trying to determine what I could use when I detox. I can try benefiber. I can eat ground flax seeds without getting hungry. So I wondered if I could use flax seeds as something to help keep me "going." I go definitely once, sometimes two times a day right now.

Just to recap what I'm doing right now, I feel like I'm following a pretty good plan of kichadi and variations like quinoa and peas, etc. (with LOTS of ghee/oil), protein, protein shakes, supplements. I'm just trying different things and tweaking based on how I feel. I might like to do a cleanse soon, but I am letting myself really enjoy this nourishment. I feel as though I really need it.

I am so much more satisfied! I've had to really cut down on the quantity of food I eat; I am way too full to eat (or pick) as much as I used to. Plus, the protein shakes are so satisfying!!! I can't get used to using so much fat though. I'm not a fat phob by any means, but I used to watch it a bit. I still have this worry a bit that I'm going to add to my belly fat.

Thank you Shelley! I finally feel as though I am on a realistic plan that enables me to nourish myself.

I'm realizing many other "healthy" anti-candida or "healthy diets" practically push people toward anorexia. I finally feel like food energizes me. That feels so incredible Laughing

Two more questions:
I am noticing night sweats. I'm avoiding all of the foods high in estrogen. Any tips? I'm about to start on Julia Chang's (bitters first and coptis/curcuma, then gcg) herbs and work toward a liver cleanse when I feel my liver can handle it). Bu, is there anything else I can do for that?

I'd like to try juicing some cabbage, but I'm avoiding garlic/onions because of sulphur. I can test it of course, but would you advise evening trying it, or just avoid it altogether for now?

Blessings Shelley. I am so very grateful for your input and all you put into this website.

Hi spicegirl! It's so nice to see you so energetic and alive! Your vitality comes across on the page, it really does. Smile

One of the reasons I recommend zinc supplements is because when we start eating better, we tend to get lots and lots of wonderful potassium. When potassium gets out of ratio with zinc that can cause symptoms that are like low estrogen. Usually if you take 50 mg of chelated zinc for a couple weeks that sets you to rights, and most of us are low in it anyway, even after we start juicing.

I'm not big on juicing cabbage and drinking it raw. It's very cleansing because of the sulphur, but cabbage tends to inhibit thyroid activity. Best to eat cabbage as a treat if you like it, or ferment it, but not juice it.

Herbal laxatives have lots of bitter herbs and they will raise the digestive fire quite a lot! Which makes one very hungry. But not every cleanse requires laxatives. If you're fasting and only having the amount of fiber that you can easily pass, you can reduce or skip bitter herbs and stick with liver/gallbladder herbs.

Smile
