Hello everyone! Hope you made it through New Year and Superbowl (golly, so few good commercials) parties without driving yourselves crazy!

I've got some good news and some not-so-good news.

Bad news first: my mom passed away on Jan 12th. I pretty much knew we were going to lose her the week prior, on my birthday. She'd been very ill for a long time, but we thought it was just the rheumatoid arthritis or the shots she had to take for it that were making her uncomfortable. Turns out she was being overly stoic about her pain and had advanced cancer. By the time they found it on the MRI she was in no condition to survive the treatment and it probably wouldn't have done her any good anyway. So the best we could hope for was to keep her comfortable until she passed. This gave us all time to say good-bye and prepare ourselves. Since she passed I've been alternating between several of the stages of the grieving process, but basically I'm okay. Smile

Now the good news is I've finally found some decent documentation that explains why I was able to cure candida overgrowth so fast with juicing, despite the apparent contradictions from a diet rich in carbs. It also helps to explain the real connection between mercury (actually, dental caries, not the metal, I'm still not convinced there is a connection between mercury itself and candida) and candida. I had lots of caries, but never an indication of mercury poisoning, and candida. This article explains why:

http://findarticles.com/p/articles/mi_m1511/is_n10_v18/ai_19758741

To simplify the article, here's the important part:

Quote:
Just recently Leifert has found that a combination of nitrite, hydrochloric acid, and vitamin C can rapidly kill the fungus that causes oral candidiasis.

In my protocol, you get the nitrites (or nitrates) from juicing/eating green leafy veggies, Kichadi, the issue of HCL and levels of C are also addressed, from supplementation and supporting the body's natural processes, B vits, organic salts, vinegar, etc. So this is one of the main reasons why I didn't need tons of expensive anti-fungals!

Having this data to site takes care of a very real issue with writing the Candida book: I didn't want to write something that wasn't based on scientific fact. Obviously my observations and experimentation were all I needed to heal myself, but to actually publish the methods without explaining why they work would not have been a serious book really worth someone else's time and effort. But now I can say, here, read this article, along with a few others, and others can trust that I'm not wasting their time. Yippee!

I've mostly been working on a novel for the past seven months because it's always been my plan to be a full-time writer and what better time than now? Sometimes escaping into the creative process is a good thing. But if this is the last objection I have towards writing a health book, I should soon be working on it a lot more. Smile

Hope you're all well and making plans that build the life that is closest to your dreams. Remember to cherish the people you call family and leave no words of love and appreciation unspoken.

All best,
Shelley
