Hey everyone! Hope you're all doing great and having a fantastic autumn!
Let's talk about managing Thanksgiving and Christmas. If you're on a strict candida diet, you can still have some fun! Turkey is always okay, gravy is fantastic, but if you make mashed potatoes like I do (with dairy) best to avoid or only take like one mouthful (if you can!). Avoid stuffing as it's usually made with bread, but check if it's dressing (on the side). Oftentimes dressing is made with wild rice, which is fine. My mom makes a delectable one with wild rice, roasted chestnuts (man they are a pain to shell) and mushrooms.
Cranberry sauce has sugar added, but you know, it's still not all that bad. Kind of like applesauce. I say go for it.
Apple pie is an acceptable cheat, as is pumpkin pie. Pumpkin pie is fantastic fiber, very easy to pass, a wonderful cure for constipation. In fact, if you have pets, keep a can of pumpkin on hand to cure their constipation or help your cat pass a furball. Just give them a spoonful or two. Works every time.
You can take your leftover canned pumpkin and mix in some traditional pumpkin pie spices and a spoonful of molasses or stevia then add to Kefir for a pumpkin smoothie - yum! Add an egg or two and it's a fine meal.
Hot apple cider is a wonderful tradition, and fantastic for dissolving liver stones.
Whatever you do, keep your meal within a reasonable size - eat it in stages if you have to. I usually have my pie at least 3 hours after the turkey, for instance.
Hope that helps!
