HEAVY bleeding!!!!

Hi Shelley,

as you already know, I'm in perimenopause, and boy, what a ride!
Now, I've learned to deal with a lot of symptoms that have come my way, and over the last 6-7 months I"ve had fairly heavy periods. But, this month it was 9 days late, and I am now on the 2nd day .... however, it's REALLY HEAVY bleeding. I do know this is another problem with peri, and a lot of the women on the peri site I belong to have this, but what worries me, is that a few of them have mentioned the fact that they had to rush to the ER due to severe blood loss! Now, i read up on that, and found out that if your hormones don't "balance" out correctly during your period, you COULD keep bleeding, and hemmorage, which like I said, had happened to a few of the women on that site. They had recommended taking 800 mg. of Advil, because it's a vasoconstrictor, and does help slow down the insane bleeding, because, it IS SCARY!!!! I have to change my pad about every two hrs. at this point. I've been told that that is not a "danger" signal, and that PERHAPS if it gets to changing it every half an hour, that MIGHt BE DANGEROUS. Yet, other women there say they have bled for WEEKS, VERY VERY HEAVILY, having to change their tampon every half an hour, with lots of blood and clotting. I have very little as far as clots are concerned, jsut most blood, and lots of it.

I know I have to make sure i drink lots of water, adn eat things with iron in them.....I also read that ACV is good for this too, and taht has helped some other women to slow down the bleeding. So, presently, I just drank an 8oz. glass of water with two tsp. of ACV and they say to do that 3 times a day. I haven't taken the Advil yet, thought I'd ask your opinon on all of this. What can I do to help myself here, to slow down the bleeding??????????

a vasodilator is something that INCREASES blood flow. That's the last thing you want when you're bleeding.

ok, no, not a vasoDILATOR ...i said a vasoCONSTRICTOR....Advil.
I tried it last night, I took 2 at first, then about an hour later, i took one more .... so that was 600 mg....it helped! It did slow it down considerably. This is really the first time now, that I've had THIS particular symptom of peri, I've had so many others already. I know my whole cycle thing is going to change, and it's happening, but all this bleeding is scary. I've talked to a friend of mine who is a nurse, and she said basically, it's normal....and not to worry unless it gets to where you are using a new pad every half an hour. Now, in the meantime, I know I need to eat legumes for iron....which do you recommend to be the best? Also, what about the ACV, is that helpful for all this bleeding....I also read up about Shepherds Purse as being given for excessive bleeding, what do you think?

It's very difficult to get iron from foods. Best to just supplement. I supplement and eat Cream of Wheat to get enough iron.
