Hi shelley, I need you to help me choose a shampoo and a conditioner.
I've been trying to do something about my hair cause I can't go out wuhout it getting messed up, I mean as soon as go out, my hair starts flying all over, I have to use some kind of cream, gel, or anything like that for it to not move(and it still doesn't work sometimes). I hate having to use a product like this, cause this means I have to shampoo my hair, and I don't like to shampoo every single day.
So my question is, is there some kind of shampoo that helps with this?
It's not normal is it? I see other people and their hair doesn't go crazy when they're out. Sometimes I go out with my hait wet, and as soon as it dries, my hair starts moving.
Im currently using American crew Citrus mint shampoo, and american crew citrus mint conditioner, I was looking at the new aveda products for men(shampoo) but I don't know? I think you reccomended me the philosphy conditioner somewhere?
I don't really know about this stuff, please help me out. |

If you mean your hair is so dry and damaged that it's light and airy, then yep, you need the protein conditioner from Philosphy.
If you mean you have very fine hair and so it tends to be fly-away, you need to use a leave-in conditioner to "weigh it down" as it were. Any conditioner can be a leave-in, but there are versions specifically for fine hair that have the necessary weight without looking oily.
And you can use an oil conditioner, the type you can put on wet or dry and leave on. Neutrogena has the cheapest version, BioSilk is probably the most popular designer brand version.
If you mean your hair is wavy rather than straight, then you need smoothing shampoos and conditioners and blow-dry.
The quickest fix is a good mousse, a relatively light one. Don't do anything else to your hair (conditioner okay) just put it on wet hair, comb into place, let the mousse fix it. Looks natural, don't have to wash right away.
Hope that helps! |

I don't think my hair is dry and/or damaged, it feels normal. But it must be light, since it goes crazy when im out.
My hair is not fine as far as I know, my sister said it feels thick(I myself don't know much about hair). So are you saying that I can leave in my American Crew conditioner, even if it DOESN'T say "leave in conditioner"?
If I use a leave in conditioner, can I still condition my hair with the philosophy conditioner?(I really want to try it out lol).
Is Biosilk the best one?
My hair gets wavy when I don't wash my hair, like right after I shampoo/condition, it gets more straight, next day it gets a little wavy(not much), then second day, it gets more wavy, and so on, so im not sure if I need smoothing shampoos and conditioners?
I don't really like mousse, it doesn't really make my hair managable, right now im using Paul Mitchell's Tea Tree Shaping Cream, it's pretty good, but since my hair is long, it makes my hair look kind of dirty.
Thanks! |

yep and yep and yep. but products that are designed to be leave-in are better than regular conditioners for that. Some of them are rinses designed to cure fly-aways.
The philosophy conditioner is definitely worth trying.
Okay, if your hair gets more wavy as time goes by, then you have wavy hair that's attracting moisture. Moisture=curls. You can choose to have wavy hair and use products that attract moisture and give curl, or you can use straightening products. Aveda for instance has both, "be curly" and straightening. If you choose wavy, then don't use a brush, use a pick and avoid brushing your hair. |

The biosilk leave in conditioner is suppose to cure fly aways right?
I'll try the philosophy conditioner as soon as I run out of the I currently have.
This is the shampoo I should use if I want straight hair?

And this, if I want wavy hair?
http://www.aveda.com/templates/products/sp.tmpl?CATEGORY_ID=CATEGORY10515&PRODUCT_ID=PROD11108 (damn these are expensive lol)
Oh, almost forgot, what cleanser do you reccomend for me?
as you can see in my other thread, I am trying to fight acne, so I don't know if I need a "special cleanser", Im looking at the botanical kinetics purifying gel cleanser from aveda, and the Anthony Glycolic Facial Cleanser, is there one that you think is best?
I've been without a cleanser for more then 5 months now, maybe that could be another reason for my breakouts?
Thanks so much for helping me Shelley. |

Yep!
Yes, Aveda is expensive, darnitall.
I listed a bunch of cheap but very effective facial cleansers you can find at any drugstore that were very well reviewed in a sticky post. Queen Helene's mint mud mask is a particular favorite of mine, as is the Freeman's version. Neutrogena products are solid, as are Clinique. I tried Philosophy's daily cleanser but it didn't do anything. Their moisturizer is good tho. |
