*Sulfite* is not great but not everyone is sensitive to it. Causing hair loss is a new one to me, they're so prevalent in so many products I'd hesitate to say that's always the cause. They are definitely a major cause of headaches. They are used as a preservative in many food preparation processes to inhibit molds and such. Red wines have them, it's best to drink kosher wine, which does not. They are often used on lettuce and veggies at the salad bar so they don't turn brown, and in deli meats. Often used to cure bacon. I can't have any of those things, major migraine results, but never experienced hair loss.

Sodium Laurel Sulphate is a different substance altogether, and it's in practically every commercial hair product so you know it can't be THAT bad, just not great because it's a detergent and detergents are harsh.

Americans like soaps that sud. They don't think that it's working otherwise. SLS is put in there to increase sudsing action. It isn't a necessary detergent. Some European/French hair products like Mastey are better that way, they don't assume it has to sud to work so they use less.

When we use the word sulphate or sulphite, we're saying that one element has been compounded with another of a certain chemical shape and that's all. many things can become sulphates or sulphites, magnesium sulphate is Epsom salts, for instance. So just because something has the word sulphate doesn't mean it's bad.

Shelley,
Im still eating good and taking just a few vitamins...liquid b, iron tablets, 5mgs of biotin and 1mg of b12. I thought my brewers yeast (1 tbsp a day) had bvitamins in it but it lists VERY small amounts. Do you think it might help my hair to increase the dose of my liquid b vitamin? I have hair loss and a white coated cracked tongue..I do feel fatigue (may be depression over hair) and wake up lots of times in the morning with a headache.
I will increase the b's (different times of the day) if you think it might help.
Thanks!

If you're having headaches the better thing to do would be to take a blood purifier, herbs that cleanse the liver and such, and get a colonic. And you may need more magnesium, not B's.
