Hello all,
My mother is 45 years old and pre-menopausal. She is extremely depressed because she has tried every diet out there and cannot loose weight. She's tried Atkins, Fat Flush Diet, South Beach, Weight Watchers, parasite cleansing, progesterone cream for suspected hormone imbalance, you name it. She wants to start liver-flushing, but cannot stand the olive oil and epsom salts (she will probably do the gentler version as described in the FAQ instead). She is about to do a diet based on making your body alkaline (pH diet of some kind) and I frankly am a little worried about that just because the science used by the guy whose book she read an excerpt is not at all sound. Anyways, if any of you have any tips at all on what she can do...she eats really well as-is, but she only gains weight (thyroid was tested and is fine). My thought is that she has an anxiety problem (and has for as long as I can remember) and that all the stress that comes with that is what is making it impossible for her to loose weight (since stress, after many years, becomes a really subconcious thing that destroys you after a while). I also wonder if she is not diabetic or slightly insulin-resistant.

Any thoughts/tips would be greatly appreciated! Smile

Please have ur mother look into the Bloodtype Diet: Live Right For Your Bloodtype.
This is NOT just any diet book, it's scientifically proven and it really works wonders withOUT feeling deprived;
furthermore, it really helps with sugar cravings and overeating !!!

Hi Lila,
Thanks for suggesting the Blood Type diet...I'd completely forgotten about it! I have heard that it works well for some people. I think this pH diet my mom is doing is totally bogus and I am a bit concerned...this guy claims that your body needs "alkaline water" (baking soda throw into a liter of water) in order to stay hydrated. I'm a biochemistry major, and even though I have only just finished basic biochemistry and my organic chemistry classes, that really said to me that this guy was full of it. She tried drinking it yesterday and had the runs really bad (which chemically makes sense). Anyways... I really feel bad for my mom because she is so depressed about not being able to lose weight! Hopefully Shelley also has some tips for her Smile Thanks again, I will bring the Blood Type diet up to my mom and hope she goes for that instead of this pH diet junk!

goodness gracious, how much baking soda did she put in the water??? Most I've ever recommended is 1/2 a teaspoon, which should not cause the runs! It sounds like she gave herself a salt water flush, which is certainly not hydrating!!! LOL! oh dear what a circus.

And you know what modern medicine knows for sure? People who are overly acidic *cannot gain weight, they can only lose weight*. It's called "failure to thrive." So any assertions that being alkaline will make you thinner are opposite what we know to be true. Alkaline people are thriving people and vital, thriving people put on mass.

When it comes to weight loss, cleansing the liver is of utmost importance, reducing calories is second, exercise and proper percentage of muscle mass is third, eating foods that are right for your bloodtype is also crucial.

I assume her thyroid been checked?

The slow liver cleanse along with liver herbs and teas, a bit of bowel and lymph management, and the candida/blood type diet should take care of any weight issues.
