| We're going camping for 4 days, what food should I bring with me? Chicken and other meats are not a problem since we'll get a fire going there, but other than that I have no clue what to do? I can't digest raw veggies, so how would I cook that? And grains? HELP! |

You can easily roast some sweet potatoes and corn in the fire, simply wrap them in foil and either bury them in coals or put on a grate above the flames. Once you taste a roasted whole ear of corn you'll never eat it any other way again! Cut the sweet potato into smallish pieces or it will take too long.
You can also slice up some zucchini, onion and bell peppers, put them on skewers along with cherry tomatoes, dip in an oil-based marinade with seasonings and salt and fire them up. YUM!!! Nothing like cooking over open flame!
For breakfast I bring quinoa because it cooks up the easiest and quickest. Just boil with water then add apples, cinnamon and butter, or any other fruit you like.
And of course eggs are always fine. Easiest way to do eggs in a campfire is to boil them for 2-minute soft-boiled eggs, or fried sunny side up in the same pan as bacon.
Chili, chicken noodle soup, lentil soup, veggie stew, are also quite doable. Instant broth is fine, you'll be sweating lots and need the salt.
For snacks bring some fruit and nut bars, or make up a bag of assorted nuts and dried fruits yourself.
Have fun! |
