Hey all,

I recently got a bottle of wheat germ oil (ordered it online) and I can't believe how gross it tastes!! I noticed that Shelley said that it's "tasteless", so I was wondering if there's something wrong with mine! Just curious... does anyone else here take it and think it tastes awful? Or is it just me?!

Mine tasted just like cod liver oil, so brought back horrible memories of my mum dosing me up on it in the mornings as a kid. LOL! So yes I think it generally does have a yucky taste!

I'm wondering about hempseed oil. Both wheatgerm and hemp oil have lots of vit E. Is there a reason that wheatgerm is better? My co op only sells WG oil in tiny bottles that aren't very cost effective.

I found this thread on hemp seed oil: http://www.askshelley.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=896&postdays=0&postorder=asc&&start=0

But I can't find anything on the internet about how much vitamin E is in hemp seed oil. A tablespoon of wheat germ oil has over 100% the RDA. Do you know how much vit E hemp seed oil has, Cjb? I'd like to know because this wheat germ oil really tastes awful!

Nevermind, found it. Nutiva's hemp oil says it has 30% of the RDA per tablespoon. That's not bad. I think I'll get some when my WGO runs out. Smile

I've been taking Spectrum Organic's wheat germ oil, and the taste is pretty minimal. I'd compare it to EVOO in terms of strength of flavor. I don't know if this is an indication of extra processing or not. They claim to minimally process all their oils ('expeller pressed and unrefined'), so I'm not sure what the difference would be between it and a stronger-tasting brand.

The current cod liver oil I'm using does pack a bit of a punch however Razz

My wheat germ oil tastes worse than my cod liver oil! Confused It's supposedly a good brand (Viobin), but who knows. Maybe I'll try Spectrum next time.
