Hi Shelley,
I am a Vata, A+ blood-type, long-term self-diagnosed systemic candida survivor just about to venture into the world of digestive enzymes. My head is swirling and my pocketbook cringing from the different options and possible trial and error period, so I would like to educate myself a bit before taking the plunge.
I saw on an earlier post of yours that you listed the following digestive enzymes as possible ones to try
Solaray Superdigestaway
Garden of Life Omegazyme
Kcal Pancreatin
I called my local supplements supplier and he said that he has tried the others but he swears by Jarrow's Digestive Enzyme! And a pitta friend of mine is taking a digestive enzyme recommended by our local naturapathic school, Bastyr University, Biogest Dietary Supplement by Thorne that has Ox bile in it! She says it is helping her a lot but her body and symptoms are quite different from mine (except that both of our stools are unformed. She says the digestive enzyme allows her to form stools).
I was reading Hulda Clark online and she seemed to suggest that ACV with honey might help. Is that true? I also saw your post on the Cleansing drink
8 oz warm water
1 tablespoon apple cider vinegar
juice of 1/2 lemon or lime
dash of cayenne pepper
grade B maple syrup to taste
Is this good for digestion?
I am looking for something to take until I can get to the supplement store and try a digestive enzyme. I am also trying to make an informed choice! (I tend to shy away from Garden of Life because it is so expensive.)
Earlier in a response to me (on Curezone) you suggested a pancreatin enzyme for me.
Any thoughts on which enzyme I should start with or is it just trial and error? |

Hi Kamala! Nice to hear from you.
When money is a concern, go for the cheapest good enzyme, which I believe is Kcal, or start making your own fermented vegetables. Fermented veggies add tons of enzymes to the system because that's what microbes do - they create enzymes. After a setup cost of the mason jar, it's very cheap, you just buy the veggies and let them sit and ferment!
ACV is great, lots of enzymes. It has to be raw, organic ACV with "the mother." The cleansing drink is a must for everyone. you might have to switch out the maple syrup however for either molasses or stevia.
You can also use the ACV to marinate veggies, like marinated cucumber or ginger. A huge help to digestive power and doesn't require any special equipment.
I'd trust anything Bastyr recommended, they're the best! If your connection at Bastyr has a list of products/manufacturers they recommend I'd love to see it. |

Great, Shelley!
Here I go (and you probably knew it was coming!): Do you have a recipe for the cleansing drink with Stevia or a recommendation on how much Stevia?
Should the molasses be blackstrap? Or should a chronic candida survivor just go with stevia to be safe? (I like to vary my diet but don't want to feed the beasties.)
I will get on curezone's body ecology board and get recipes to ferment my own veggies.
I will also ask my pal about the recommendations at Bastyr. You're awesome, Shelley! I can't tell you what a difference it makes having you in my healing corner... |

It's impossible to say how much Stevia because all the stevia products out there vary so much! there are highly-concentrated ones that are liquid, powder, or ones that have been combined with a bulk fiber/sugar so that it is as sweet as sugar. In the Kitchen forum are a bunch of posts about Stevia including one that has a bit of guidance for how mcu to use of this or that in place of sugar, but you have to ultiamtely experiment with your own stevia.

Ocassional use of small amounts of unsulphured molasses (just make sure it's unsulphured) is fine for candida people. The majority of the time use stevia.

We have a few recipes in the Kitchen here, including a very easy one for marinated ginger and a great sauerkraut recipe. We'll be posting more as soon as we can actually kitchen-test them. |

Hi Shelley,
I got the Kal pancreatin enzymes tonight and discovered that if I bring the receipt, I can return an opened bottle in exchange for something else at the store! So my worries about trying a gazillion digestive enzymes were for naught. The clerk swore that enzymatica was the best one but they were out of stock so I went with the cheapest. We'll see what happens.
Thanks for the word on the marninated veggies. I'll be in the kitchen board lickety split! |
