Just read on a website an interesting article about different juices for the liver. Here it is:

Liver (cirrhosis and hepatitis)

Hardening, congestion and impairment of liver owing to excess consumption of refined starches (especially white flour), refined sugars, hydrogenated fats and overcooked meats, and insufficient raw food in diet; also due to excess use of alcohol and drugs, including nicotine.

Cleansing-detox is the very first step towards resolving this issue followed by a rejuvenation-diet.

The below foods and juices are therapeutic and healing after your cleansing.

Yeast: active yeast is a potent source of B vitamins and pangamic acid, all of which are vital for liver function and help reduce liver inflammation; alkalizes the liver and stimulates liver functions; 1 packet of granular active yeast in a glass of warm water, twice per day, on empty stomach only; do not mix with other foods.

Tomato: raw tomato is especially effective in reducing inflammation of liver due to hepatitis and cirrhosis; best taken for 1-3 days exclusive of other food, either bulk or raw juice; may be mixed with carrot juice for flavor and extra therapeutic benefit.

Carrot juice: fresh raw carrot juice is one of the best liver detoxifiers when consumed in quantities of 2-3 pints daily. Such dosage sometimes results in an orange tinge in the skin; contrary to popular belief, this is not caused by carotene, any more than beets turn you red or spinach green; the orange tinge is due to toxic bile being purged from the liver by the mega-dosage of carrot juice; the bloodstream cannot excrete the bile fast enough through the kidneys, so it is purged through the skin; when liver is clean, you won't turn orange, regardless of how much carrot juice you drink.

Summer squash: especially rich in sodium, summer squash is an excellent alkalizing remedy for acidosis of liver and blood due to depressed liver function. Lightly steamed, no salt or spices.

Other beneficial foods: beets (raw juice or bulk); cabbage; zucchini; string beans (bulk or juice); calves liver; raw spinach; sunflower seeds; soy beans.

Foods to avoid: deep fat fried foods; overcooked meats; refined sugars and starches; alcohol; drugs; foods with chemical additives and preservatives.

I was quite surprised to find out that a yellow tinge in the skin wasn't beta-carotene but actually toxic bile. Anyway due to my ongoing liver situation and the pain I thought I'd step up my juicing. I was just wondering as Shelley recommended olive oil and lemon juice in her cleansing carrot salad could this be put in a carrot juice drink to get the same benefits? Also for beet juice does this come from raw or cooked beet and if its raw how do you prepare it? Most of the beetroot in the UK in supermarkets is pre-cooked. I went to an organic supermarket today and found some raw beet and it sounds silly but I have no idea what to do with it!!! Also how do beets and carrots differ in the cleansing of the liver?

Many Thanks

Hi Clare, how are you, having a nice weekend?

You did a great job posting this article Very Happy
It definitely inspired me to go tomorrow to buy some carrot and beat and start with juices again.
I put my raw beats in juicer. I usually make a mix with carrots, it is very strong. Smile
I eat raw beats, just cut it in slices and down the throat it goes Laughing
If you want you can also cook them, wash them, peel them and start cooking them. They are little bit hard to cook, although I just did it couple of times. They are little sweet and it make me feel so good to it them while on Candida diet. It was then when I started liking beats.
Oh, and don't be scared if afterwards your urine looks red. Even couple of days after eating beats.

Hi Ivana, I'm still detoxing my lovely liver thanks for asking. Hope you are well and enjoying the weekend. I too am going to start being more adventurous with juices. I find carrot juice alot easier to drink than the carrot salad and its so good for you too.

The raw beet and carrot juice sounds interesting. Am going to try and get down to the organic supermarket today up in London as I live just outside London and get some nice fruit and veggies as the standard supermarkets in the UK seem to think they can get away with selling just a limited variety as there is only a limited market for organic produce and charge about 3-4 times the price of normal fruit and veg stocked there.

I hope you are having a lovely weekend. If I find any yummy recipes for juicing while I'm experimenting I'll let you know!

Take Care Clare

Hi everybody, Interesting to read different benefits people experience from juicing. I have been doing it myself (for back-pain) Lemon and Grapefruit juices are just the right thing for me. Since I started that my back-pain has almost vanished and my health in general has been boosted greatly: I give the credits to a yoga instructor that teached me the importance of juicing.

I learned all about it from this page: "Juicing book with tips and mouth-watering recipes"

It's a great way to stay healthy and out of hospitals!
Wishing everybody all the best and success.
