Hi Shelley,

My dog caught some kind of flu, he is coughing and he has a sore throat. Also, occasionally he has green discharge from his nose.
I've been cleaning his throat with iodine as this was helping before with his mother.
His food consists of dry and cooked food. I am cooking chicken broth with some basmati rice and mixing all together. This should be good also for the fly.
I don't want to take him to the vet, because she is always prescribing antibiotics and I hate it.
Would it be ok to give him some Vitamin C, or something else? What do you think?

Dogs can take very small doses of vitamins, but human vitamins overdose them so often the best thing is to simply put them on half rations of real food like you're doing for a couple days, and add Kefir to the rations. Broth is good, but don't salt it or use any spices.

Ginger is excellent, it warms the tummy and helps them exit the mucus faster, which prevents the mucus from causing deep-seated infections. It's hard to get them to eat something that is spicy tho, so what you have to do is hide the ginger root inside a bit of something and get them to swallow it. Garlic is a natural antibiotic and dogs respond well to it.

I found a good powder vitamin that I sprinkle on the dogfood occasionally. Kazuo loves it. It's called C-Biotic by Wysong.

Thanks Shelley,

What's even weirder I also have flu Shocked

I'll try to find the best way ginger to give him.

Like most of the boxers he has very sensitive stomach, and had allergic reaction to most of “the best" dog food on the market.
But since we found Eagle Pack things are back in normal. But a big difference is also chicken broth and basmati rice mixture that I am giving him. He really adores it. Sometimes my husband is complaining that I am cooking more for dogs than for us. The sad thing is that he is sometimes true Smile

Oh I am off topic now, maybe the high temperature is kicking me Laughing

hahaha I used to cook every day for my dogs!!! but then I discovered that they like canned food just as well so... I'm lazy now. Wink

Your Boxer (the one in question) is allergic to Flax seed, and most of the high-quality dog foods have flax seed for the omega's. It's really annoying. He's also allergic to tomatoes, onions, and very sensitive to most spices, yeppers.

Whoops, I just double-checked on the ginger, don't give it to him. My bad. Garlic is still okay.

Oh I have been delaying posting about it.
The knee isn't holding up with the impact. I've had a ittsy bit of bleeding in there and lots of swelling. So I was quit down in the dumps over it. I am back walking daily and trying to up my cardio with tape routines.
I am really trying to get back on track. I slipped a bit all around but nothing I can't recover with a determined effort.
Thanks for asking.

Baby your self and that pup of yours. Ummm and the hubby too Very Happy
