loving the new site!! congrats shelley
well to get to the point i am a vata, blood type o positive. have been diagnosed with chronic fatigue (personally i think this diagnosis is a pile of ermm....) , so lets say tired all the time.. i have recently been told i am hyperthyroid, so i seem to almost have this kind of frantic nature even though i feel fatigued. I have a high viral load, ermm candida. Interrupted sleep patterns. I feel the cold very easily, but recently with this hyperthyroid i have very hot palms. My tongue has a thick white coating at the back and a very red tip, pretty pale elsewhere with teethmarks. I have white flecks on my nails and these are easily broken. My eyes are kind of tinged red and i have been losing a lot of hair recently. I am making kefir culture at the moment, taking lecithin and digestive enzymes with meals, taking evening primrose oil and silica on rising.... what would you suggest. I find ayrvedic medicine very interesting, i am currently studying chinese medicine at university, pretty confusing stuff. They seem to have a lot of common ground dont you think?? |

Hiya Kat! So glad you stopped by!
I found Chinese Medicine, even after reading like 5 books, too hard to apply. I have no problem with yin/yang, but then add wood, wind, metal, plus heat and cold plus damp plus... it just wasn't intuitive. Plus, they totally leave out the existence of hormones, practically the entire endocrine system, so ... not a thorough approach. I immediately soaked up Ayurvedic medicine and instantly applied it so that's the language I speak most. Adding in acupuncture points makes Ayurvedic medicine even more thorough.
A red tip sounds like you have heat somewhere, chest, lungs or stomach, but congestion everywhere else. Is there a history of thyroid issues in your family? If not, then you should do a complete and thorough look into your environment and the toxins there. IF an old house, for instance, the wood may have been treated with arsenic, ceiling have asbestos, hidden molds/mildews, use of pesticides, RAID, etc. etc.
Be sure to read up on what Julia Chang did for her hyperthyroid at www.sensiblehealth.com. Wish I'd known about that when I had mine! The Western medicine route is not that great.
A combination of good solid exercise and rest/massage is going to be essential for you while your thyroid is wonky. Supplementing with Electrolytes is also essential, you'll need extra calcium and potassium. Emergen-C, potassium broth, cleansing drink, CalMagFizz, should be regular parts of your regimen.
Evening primrose is not ideal for you at this time as it is estrogenic and your hormones are already wonky so best not to add to it. Stick to cod liver, olive, coconut, maybe almond or sunflower.
The rest of what you need to do is pretty much what any candida sufferer needs to do - a realistic candida diet (no sugar but alternative grains okay), and thorough bowel, liver and lymph management. keep up with the kefir.
Hope that helps! |

wow that website was really informative, makes so much sense. I suppose i have been doing myself more harm than good messing with these oestrogenic foods and herbs, i have also been supplementing with my own mixture of herbs which included dong quai and ginseng, oops. I really needed the energy boost that ginseng gives though, damn my weak spleen Is it true that constant fatigue is more likely to be a spleen issue whereas alternating energy levels is more likely to be a liver issue, just a thought. Do i really have to avoid flax? i do enjoy it in my morning porridge, hope everything with you is good. kat x |

low energy can be due to SO many things. If ginseng was helping you, it's likely that it was helping the spleen, but also thinning the blood and making oxygen more available. You can thin the blood with ginger, turmeric, garlic and onion instead.
Try Gotu Kola. Not estrogenic, fantastic energy - feeds the adrenals and clears the mind.
You don't have to totally avoid flax, just make the one teaspoon at breakfast all you eat and you should be fine, now thatyou've found the other estrogenic compounds in your diet. |
