Hi Shelley and others, i hope you can shed some light on this.

I have read somewhere (can't remember where) that the mximum protein intake per meal is only 25 g. other places say it 30 g. can you please clarify?

also it is said that if more protein is consumed per session, it will get deposited into the basement membranes and capillaries and cause trouble later on. is that true?? are there any more dangers to over consumption of protein per meal?

even though i am practsing yr initiatives (replacing whey with yr protein shake, broth, grain+ legume combination, 20-40% of caloric intake coming from protein), i want to be a really big bodybuilder. there will come a time when i have to consume a lot of protein.

so my dilemma is, which of the following situation is worse?

exceeding protein intake per meal

or

speading out the protein requirement and waking up in the middle of the night to chug down protein shake, disturbing sleep and introducing food again into the body so the body works non-stop? (BTW, can yr protein shakes be take in the middle of the night?)

many thanks

hi buffboi,
sorry to butt in.. i am in exactly th same position as you in that i want to get back in to body building and get massive. at the moment my requirements arent all that much because i weigh very little and i think my body knows that.when i do get bigger i'll need more calories but i think when that time comes my body will slowly adjust and will automatically signal for more food. when i used to weigh around 4 stones more in my body building days i used to get ravanous 3 hours after a 2 slices of chiken breast and some rice and veg. but i get full from just little sardines and some spinach and keeps me going for 3-4 hours!! thats my plan any way, to listen to my body and let the bodies needs and demands set the pace..

as for eating that much protein i really dont think you'll need to wake in the night for a protein snack and it really wont do u any good at all. i've lived with body builders big and huge and they do eat consciensiously (spelling???)
but they know that routine is rest at resting times, train heavy at training times and eat when its time to eat.. they also admit that most of their protein in food doesnt get assimilated where as the principles here are that eat little less quantity but quality so that you get better food assimilation..

well thats my take on this and good luck.. sorry to bang on.. i'll let u know if it works and like wise..

smooth

Hi buffboi,

Well that is dilemma; bodybuilders will often tell you that you will need to take 1gr. of protein per kilo of body weigh. Personally I think that is a lot and as the smoothcriminal says the best way is to listen to your body, if you increase your activities body will signal for more food, it is simple as that. Smile All exceed protein will end up as fat and a lot of protein is very hard on liver as well. So I would not recommend it at all. Plus the professional bodybuilders (that are often writing things like that about protein) have very heavy and strict routine, and I think that average people never commit to that at all, also for getting that lean mass that they have most of them use steroids, and from my experience this also goes for people that we see everyday in our gym. You will never get to that point that your body will have to burn the muscles to get the energy for workout, Shelley's protein shake plus your routine will do just fine
