Shelley,
My friend has a problem with wound healing, he does physical work and often gets cuts or injuries which close over quickly but stay at the 'purple' stage of healing for a very long time, you know after the scab forms and drops off but the skin seems to stay discoloured red/purple for weeks longer than it should.
He has a decent diet (plenty of veg, good grains, some meat), is active and I was just wondering if it points to any specific deficiencies other than the broad possiblities of skin food / efas etc?
Thanks as ever. |

Slow wound healing speaks to a lot of different deficiencies, but if the first stages are happening at a good pace and only the last, mostly cosmetic healing isn't happening, then I'd shorten the list to include just zinc, chromium, Vitamin A, Vit C, Vit E, low EFAs, low thymus. Most guys are chronically low in EFA's because they need so many for testosterone, which is one of the reasons why men are more prone to heart attacks than women.
Is he eating the Protein shake occasionally? That's a great all-around cure for any skin issue. Wheat germ, carrots, coconut oil, are also good options provided they work well with his system. Chromium is easy enough to supplement and is indicated if he has any hypoglycemic issues or if he had a period of high-sugar diet. Zinc is indicated if he indulges in alcohol and sugar or has bumps on the back of his arms.
Hope that helps! |

| If you're eating sugar regularly, you should take chromium at least once or twice a week, more if you have a family history of diabetes. Zinc and B vitamins are also good. |

Sugar is my weakness unfortunately ... sigh ...
I do try to eat healthy on most days; lots of fruits and vegetables ... turkey, lamb, fish, eggs, rice/beans with lots of EVOO ... but perhaps too much pasta and bread which I should cut down !!
I guess that I best get on it and start to take chromium and zinc !!
Diabetes does run in my family
For my B's, I take NYF at least 2x per week
THANKS SHELLEY ... God bless u |
