I'm female, 49 years old, and have suffered with health issues all my life. My stomach was operated on when I was a week old, and in 1984 I had heart surgery for WPW. I have been diagnosed with fibro, arthritis, IBS, chronic conspitation. I have been an avid reader of Shelley since 2004. (off and on)
I have tried to get healthy in the past, but never quite got it right. I didn't want to "give up" all the stuff I enjoyed so much.
But, now, I am ready!! I went to a naturopath on Wednesday, and she put me on a very strict diet. (well, strict for me anyways)
The rules are:
NO corn
NO alcohol
NO wheat/gluten
NO aspartame
LIMITED caffiene
NO coffee or black tea
LIMITED green tea (3 per day)
NO soy milk
NO sugar
NO Dairy
That pretty much cancels out my current diet. (current until last Wednesday anyways) I was enjoying 5+ black teas per day, with cow's milk, 2 or 3 diet cokes, 1 or 2 beers, lots of pizza (veggie cuz I wanted to be healthy), pasta, cheese, especially really old cheddar, breads, cheese bread, and not to many veggies or fruit.
So I started my new eating diet Wednesday. I'm surprised at how "not hungry" I am. I think I've lost 2 lbs already, at least my tummy seems flatter. I'm eating lots of apples, carrots, almonds, hummus, balsamic rice. My flesh foods include: chicken, tuna, salmon, veal, extra lean ground beef.
I am feeling more energized, but I am also experiencing a lot of withdrawal symptons too, the most annoying being a really bad headache and backache. I'm hopeful that will go soon, I think it's probably the aspartame withdrawal.
The coolest thing I've noticed so far, is my tongue. I no longer have the jagged crack down the middle. I can't believe it. This only took 4 days. My tongue had a very deep crack with little cracks starting to come off it, and now I only have a crease!!
If anyone has any great recipes I can eat, or can recommend a good easy cookbook I'd sure appreciate it.
Shelley, thank you for your recipes in the FAQ section. I'm going to try some of them.

Day 5
Well, my headache is much better! And my back isn't as tender either, which is wonderful. I'm feeling a bit dizzy today, I was walking in a store with my daughter, and accidently took a detour into a clothing rack.
Other new symptom from the withdrawal is a really sore area lower back, right side. I think it's kidney pain. I going to do the The ACV Detox Bath after I dry brush tonight, to help my kidneys detox.
I'm still constipated, and since it was chronic, I don't expect miracles. I tried the flaxseed tea tonight, before a light dinner. I expected it to taste nasty, but surprise, it didn't. Kinda like hot cereal, kinda nice.
All in all, I'm feeling better, more energy. |

Still on my new eating style. I'm feeling so much better, and have lost 20 lbs. I'm not hungry, and seem to be eating all the time. I'm getting so much more creative in the kitchen. I'm cooking everything from scratch. Tonight, we are having ground beef "stew" over balsamic rice. I browned extra lean ground beef with 2 onions, added celery, brocoli and carrots. When it's cooked, I make a "sauce" with gluten free vegetable boullion chick pea flour and water. It's really tasty on the rice.
I'm still fine tuning my diet. I gave up eating night shade veggies to see if that will help my arthitis. So far, I haven't noticed any difference, and I sure miss peppers and tomatoes.
I've started taking FNGL (4 caplets per day) to help clean the nasties out of my system. I'm also taking malic acid and magnessium (for fibro), vit b complex, and probiotics.
I really love my new body, and the way I feel.
