Biotin is one of the crucial B vitamins and thus part of Skin Food. Some of us may need to take Biotin supplements rather than relying on just Nutritional Yeast Flakes or a B vitamin complex that doesn't have much.

Biotin is necessary for healthy skin and hair. It also helps with liver cleansing and managing fats better. It is an essential component to fat metabolism. Consequently, if you have oily skin, white heads, glands that are producing way too much oil, and an overburdened liver, Biotin is a great help as it helps the body break down fats so that they are more manageable and don't clog things up.

If you have acne issues or are cleansing the liver, you may want to consider taking about 1000 mcg of Biotin daily for a week or two and see if it helps. After that, take it about 3x a week.

I can attest to what Shelley says as my doc put me on biotin for my acne issues, as well. It did help while I cleansed my liver to reduce the severity of my acne even if it did not completely get rid of all my acne. I had to further clean out my liver/gallbladder with juicing, herbs, NYF and lecithin before I saw dramatic results. A nice side note is that my previously dry hair regained quite a bit of luster and softness after increasing my biotin intake.

So, biotin would have a dual purpose of uses in the body, first for cleansing a sluggish liver and also improve skin and hair issues.
My finacee is plagued with adult acne because he has exceptionally oily skin would it improve his skin also? Isn't excess oil secretion an imbalence of hormones (thyroid or pituitary) in the body? How would boitin work in helping these issues? Rolling Eyes

It's not just thyroid or hormones. The fats get cloggy and difficult to deal with (whiteheads) when the body can't properly metabolize (utilize for energy, break down) long fat chains. A comprehensive program of liver cleansing, diet and addressing deficiencies, "fat busters" and avoidance of the fats that can't be broken down properly (canola, margarine) can only help the skin.
