Another question!
I'd like to do the protein shake in your recipe section, but I'm not sure about the raw eggs
The white of an egg, as I understand it, is the albumen around the yolk to protect the growing chick while it feeds on the yolk. Like amniotic fluid in a human.. Instinctively it seems a bit funny to eat this! Makes sense to eat the yolk, as it's full of nutrients (designed for a growing chick). But the white, especially raw, seems so slimy and weird! I had a raw egg once in shake and felt a little sick. What are the nutrients in the white that makes it good to eat?
And isn't there a risk of salmonella?
I heard that raw egg whites alone aren't good as they contain a glycoprotein called avidin that is very effective at binding biotin. Because of all the biotin in egg yolk though it's ok with a whole egg.
Please persuade me to me raw eggs! |

Oh dear I keep forgetting to put this in the FAQ! LOL! Okay, about 1 in 40,000 eggs have salmonella. I like those odds.
Albumin is the main - practically only - protein of plasma. It is our life blood. Without albumin in our veins we'd die instantly. |
