Today I had a nice long talk with my grandma about food and she talked about how she ate when she grew up. My grandpa and grandma both grew up as farmers, just like everyone else here in northern Sweden at that time.
They raised their cows, pigs, hens and goats. Grew their own potatoes. Fermented their own veggies. Salted their meats for long storing etc. Made their own butter. She told me that sugar was introduced to her for the first time when she was about 10-15 years or so. There was no candy available.

She said that she reads that now days people are saying butter and fat are are bad. But she won't belive anything of the sort,. "I eat butter from the spoon, and there is no danger involed", she said.

"A few groups of people ate alot of flourfoods", she told me, but I don't belive that's very good for you she told me.

They drank alot of whole raw milk from healthy cows fed on grass and hey. "No one was allergic to milk back then", she said. "But there is something wrong with the milk nowadays. I think they put something in it, or that they heat it, what do they call it? ... pastu...pastu... oh well. "

Now that's what i call nourishing traditions! This is coming from a woman who has had no education in nutrition what so ever, it's like she knows it by instinct. hmm... Smile

I have had many talks with my grandmother along the same lines and she says she doesnt understand why doctors say salt, butter and bacon are bad for us. She grew up eating farm foods and no preservatives and she is 81 taking no medsand only needs reading glasses! Her older sister is almost 91 and has had some health issues but mostly due to anger. Amazing, the more we try to change what isnt broken the worse things are huh?
