| I bought a copy of "Eat Fat, Lose Fat" by Mary Enig & Sally Fallon which just came out in December. One of the things they recommend as a calcium supplement is dolomite powder. I wondered what you thought of this. I know you usually recommend Cal-Mag Fizz. I've decided I just can't take the taste of anything effervescent, so I'm looking for another way. |

Dolomite is fine. Sally and co. like to recommend taking minerals from as natural state as possible, but it's really not that necessary. A mineral is a mineral, whether it came from dolomite or coral sea beds. The advantage of dolomite is it has magnesium and not just calcium. The calcium is calcium carbonate. That will lower stomach acidity so don't take with meals, take after.
For best absorption, find a calcium supplement that is a combo of calcium citrate, calcium lactate, calcium carbonate, and has about half as much magnesium and a bit of Vitamin D. Some will also have zinc which is a good idea to get. I like Solaray brand of vitamins/minerals. They have a Cal/Mag/Zinc but I don't think it has D. |

| Thanks Shelley! I guess I'm not sure if I actually need calcium, etc. It's mentioned often as a part of weight loss supplementation and my MD at my physical yesterday mentioned it too. I'm trying to balance my hormones, get rid of PMS (food cravings), and after the last couple of months, lose weight. We'll see if my thyroid is out of whack when my blood tests come back. |

| Calcium is very very important! Every time we use a muscle we use calcium. It's an essential blood mineral. It's so essential that the body will rob the bones to keep it in the blood. When we talk about becoming more alkaline and less acidic, it's calcium that we're talking about actually. A lack of calcium leaves us vulnerable to colds and flus. And if you cut out dairy, it's very difficult to get adequate amounts from diet alone. So I recommend CalMagFizz, just one glass a day for most people. |
