hello shelley,
because of the anti carb diet, my keytones are elevated. my mother is a diabetic and she let me use one of her keytone strips and it tested moderate. any suggestions? she wants me to go back to a normal diet but she doesnt understand what she's asking me to do...risk going back the horror of what i felt like before. ill admit, i am run down most of the time, i guess because i am not getting adequate sugars for energy and instead am burning fat stores, which is what i think ketoacidosis is, but i feel so much better than i did before i started all this. well, thanks in advance. |

Hiya Columbo!
Ketosis is one of the many reasons why I recommend supplementing calcium during the candida diet. Having a lot of ketones in the blood means acid pH, which can cause calcium depletion. That's really the only worry in your case. Have you been taking calcium? If you have, there's nothing to worry about.
Do what you can to up your caloric intake, such as keep lentil salad on hand, make up a batch of kichadi, have some spicy sweet potato, cleansing pasta, add extra eggs to your protein shake, etc.
You have to burn off at least some body fat to cleanse thoroughly, the trick is saving your muscle mass. If that goes your entire metabolism gets screwed up. |

| well the binge fest for my birthday has come and gone and i didnt have any real significant reaction to it. i couldnt sleep all night...probably from the sugari havent had in almost 2 years and then the following day i sneaked a little leftover chunk of the icecream cake and i had this crash mid afternoon and had to take a nap. but no stomach issues so far...not sick. maybe a little light headed but not bad over all. i plan to resume my diet for as long as need be but it was fun. i plan to fast for a day over the weekend as you recommended, shelley, but is there anything else i can do/ take to lessen any internal fires i may have started with this lapse? |

Liver/kidneys.
I wouldn't take ALA that long. It's important to do it around the clock, and to take other things to protect the liver/kidneys at the same time. Otherwise you release things but they don't get excreted properly, float around, do damage, and settle somewhere new. |

| Oh now i am a bit confused. cutlers book outlined that it might take years of taking ala for some people to properly rid it from the body. i havent been taking it for 7 months straight without any breaks if thats what you thought i meant. i do a week on and then a week off, like his book suggests. is that what you thought i meant? as far as protecting the kidneys and liver, i take milk thistle and stone free all the time but more so during the weeks i take ala. is this adequate? and when you say, the liver and kidneys excrete the metals, does that mean it exits the body throught the urine? |

| according to the hair analysis i had done. it showed i was in the 98% toxic range, but the blood test i had done showed normal ranges. it depends on who you believe. all i can say i felt like #$%## for a long while and it could have been candida, which i have many symptoms to reflect or metals or both. probably both, and one might have contributed to the other. |

| basically i folowed everything you read here on shelley's site. it covers it all. i can say for sure but i think the best strides were made when i began increasing my digestion. adding acv to water for every meal and even drinking it throughout the day really helps, and doing pungent spices on foods. take as much probiotics as possible. i shovel them down by the hand full. its expensive but who cares about money over health. then i think beginning and following the culter chelation ala protocol has helped, or atleast i began to feel improvements when i started taking the ala, if that was coincidence, i dont know. if you have fillings, consider having them removed, if you fell really bad. for me the cost of doing it, $2500, was worth atleast knowing that i eliminated that possibility. have a homeopathic dentist do it. i would recommend studying the candida protocol shelley has laid out here, more than youve studied for anything else in your life, because if you feel as bad as i have and sometimes continue to, there is nothing more important. the only thing i havent really done is the enemas, which im sure would help but just havent gotten comfortable enough to make them a routine. for now, increase digestion, take probiotics and work at keeping yourself regular. aside from that, you have to read this site and trial and error everything. good luck. |

| Oh good. yes, I meant you're supposed to cycle on and off, and you should occasionally take sulphur, selenium and B vits in addition to milk thistle etc. |
