I have noticed when the yellow icons show up to give indication that unread posts are on the forum that after a period of time (hours) if I refresh they will co back to normal ‘read’ status even though I have not read any of the messages.
I hope this makes sense.
Is there an automatic cancellation of the ‘unread’ notification after so many hours?
Also I still do not get email notification when I get a reply to my posts. |

I have the same problem. Sometimes, even after a short period of time, the "yellow" goes away, even though I did not read the new messages for that forum.

Hi,
This is common "feature" of the most bulletin boards out there. The thing is that if this option is not present, the follow up on read and unread messages would be impossible. Just think about it logically.
What I can suggest is that when you want to keep track of the present unread messages list, do so without refreshing, just use BACK and FORWARD buttons in your browser. This way, you preserve triggering the cache refresh option, which erases present cookie state.
I hope the information was clear enough. If you have any more questions, please ask.
Cheers,

I understand what you are saying but the it doesn’t help me to keep track of my own posts and replies unless I check every 30 mins so I don’t get ‘automatic cancellation’, I still do not receive notifications when my posts are replied to.
Any idea why this is not working at all? |

I want the yellow icon, but it just always work. Some days I enter the forum for the first time that day and everything is gray. Yet I can look at the time and date of the most recent posts, and see there are posts I haven't read.
Sometimes I only have a moment and I read a few posts and must leave the forum before reading all the ones that are new to me. When I come back, they don't show up as new.
So now I come to the forum less often; only when I have time to read through all the posts.
I thought I was the only one this was happening to, but maybe not. At any rate, I just assume it is one of the quirks of computer and the internet and will just be this way, at least for me.
Thank you.

| yep, that happens to me too, so I sometimes miss a brand new post. I have to look at the number of replies to be sure it's one I've answered. But I always get the e-mail notifications luckily, that's a big help to keeping on top of things. |

I am sorry to say, but this is the way every forum softweare is working, cause it reads cookies stored in your cache memory, and when it checks that you have visited homepage once, and then leave the site without reading all new messages at that time, your new post count is reseted to 0. Its simply because cookie tells your explorer that you have been there (homepage) and assume you read all new messages at that time.
The other way, which would be imposible and ludacris, is that forum software make cookies for every action the user performs. This way there would be so many cookies in the system, that forum would be slow and unusable.
The only suggestion I can make here is to use option located in upper right of the forum, labeled " View posts since last visit". This list should solve your problems with color marking of new messages. It will chack your last visit to forum, and it doesent depends on cookies. That option is there from the start, and represent the best solution for this issue.
Hope this helps,
Dragan
P.S.
Alien, I am sorry to hear that you dont get notifications. I will do couple of test and check if there is some problem with email connections. Sorry for the delay, I was just swamped with work obligations.
Thanks! |

I will try to "view posts since last visit" selection. I had not even noticed it before. Thank you so much for the suggestion.
