Hello Shelley, it's been a while since I visited, and it was with great happiness I saw the site is still going strong! Sorry to read of your ill health lately.

I have a little query about caffeine and muscle spasms. I've upped my intake to a daily cup of coffee, and I really notice now if I skip it, in that I can't really concentrate. Along with my 'addiction' has come an annoying, visible twitch in the skin under my eyes.

Any chance it's something so simple as a cal/mag pill that I should be taking? Or is it a stress thing that means I should get off the coffee and back to meditation?

Hiya Kt! nice to hear from you! Smile

Are the twitches/ticks only happening on one side of the face, or do they move around, or both sides of the face all the time?

Whenever you want to do the caffeine thing, you really need to nourish the adrenals. I still do caffeine (until I get my very own kitchen or only one other roommate) myself I must admit, but only a small serving of Mountain Dew - that way I don't get any of the side-issues that coffee has inherent, such as high phosphorus content, high acid affect on pH, etc.

Some of us simply have to resort to caffeine because our schedules don't mesh with our biorhythms. My day has to start very very early and I'm usually driving home at around 4:00 pm, which is the crash hour for most of us. And I can't afford to crash on the drive home, so ... caffeine and then my nap! Smile

ANYway, be sure to take adaptogenic herbs. A complex with ginseng, astralagus and gotu kola would be best. Bieler broth too. And get your thyroid checked regularly because if you have the body type that reacts strongly to caffeine (1/3 of population), you could eventually weaken the thyroid. And make sure the rest of your diet is alkaline to offset the coffee. The baking soda treatment is especially crucial if you're twitching. You also need to figure out your calcium/magnesium needs. Could be you're just a little low or imbalanced in Cal/Mag. Coffee will cause us to shed minerals so...

Hope that helps!
