One of the objectives of health management should be to retain a 100% full range of movement all through our lives. There's no reason why we should end up bent over, permanently stooped shoulders, with ulcered vertebraes, etc. Does this require frequent visits to the chiropractor? Actually, no! Quite the opposite. It's best if you take care of this yourself.
Chiropractors are great in a pinch, and a good expert to consult with as to whether your spine is in the right shape. But actually curing any curvature or bad posture - that you really have to do yourself, they can just shorten the journey a tiny bit. What they do will soon be undone by you, your soft tissues, because they won't change unless you force them too, and repetition and previous injuries may have shaped them to pull things out.
So full range of movment means we can turn our head from side to side and look BACKwards. It means we can rotate our arms without pain. Hips can still grind, feet can turn, every joint moves full rotation. We should be able to bend over and touch the floor - with our palms - with only a slight relaxation in our legs.
You don't have to study yoga or take Pilates, although I recommend that you do just for inspiration and the fun of it. Mostly you have to do your stretching exercises and full rotation exercises. Isometrics too, either with a partner or a strap to provide resistance. I also like to hold a 2-pound dumbell to help me stretch my back and pull my shoulders out. I swing it from side to side, front to back, whatever I can manage. It gets out the kink that the mouse puts in.
I put on some medium speed, rhythmic music and do isolations I learned in jazz class, adding the joint workout. There are four or five yoga positions that are very helpful.
Now I get arthritic type pain because having insufficient kidney function means a buildup of acids. My cure works and I see no reason why it wouldn't work on the aged, because usually that's why they're in pain - their major organs are not working as efficiently as when they're young. But no one tells them how to deal with it because it's expected - it's part of old age. Sigh.
What I do is reduce calories, increase fluids, then take a pill of baking soda and a cleansing drink, then 20 minutes later when I'm sure it's in my bloodstream, I start my exercises. I work on the spine first as always and then I concentrate on whatever area has the pain. This ensures the carbonate gets to the area it needs to get to in order to take the pain away permenantly. Sometimes I follow the exercise with massage or detox bath.
So I was wondering how much interest in this low-impact, stay-flexible and mobile type exercise is out there? Should I do an exercise video? The book is nowhere near where I want it to be and I just discovered something I want to research first because I don't want the first edition to have it wrong. It will slow down the writing process unfortunately. But a video I could do over summer vacation. Anyone interested?

| What a brilliant idea Shelley... I think a video would be fab! Maybe you could test a short trial version on YouTube? See how people react to it? I am sure the video would be well received and welcomed. |
