So far I have not recommended this technique because it is soooo powerful and potentially risky. Most people do not need to do anything to become more alkaline beyond changing their diet, taking Calcium occasionally, the ACV Cleansing Drink regularly, detox baths, and some Potassium Broth, but some people really need to do more.
If you are having arthritis symptoms, lots of joint pain or cracking joints, or any weird pain that you just can't seem to get rid of such as sciatica, with or without skin eruptions, and have a history of toxic body and digestive upsets (never cleansed, ate a high-ash/acid diet), then it could be you still have too many acids for your body to exit and they're being stored as minute crystals that are causing irritation and pain.
If you suspect you have reduced stomach acids or digestive enzymes (have lots of gas, have diabetes, acid reflux) chances are good you're deficient and this protocol will help you greatly.
If you read any of the bad information on pH balance (there is a lot of poor science surrounding the whole pH debate) you may think establishing a more alkaline pH is very difficult. It's not. The thing is, it's so easy that you could hurt yourself if you overdose. It's actually more dangerous, more compromising to our systems, to be too alkaline than it is to be too acid. Too acid, you get pain. Too alkaline, you get death. So go slow and only do this for 3 days at a time with a week break in between.
For the body to manage pH and exit acids, it needs more base to become more alkaline. This means any compound that ends in the word "carbonate" needs to be taken. One of the reasons I recommend Emergen-C is that its mixture has carbonates in very safe doses.
The cheapest and easiest is good old baking soda, which is sodium bicarbonate. Just 1/2 to 3/4 a teaspoon, no more, added to a glass of water, or the Cleansing Drink, taken on an empty stomach apart from food, because it will neutralize stomach acids temporarily. I don't like the taste, so I put it in a gelatin capsule. I simply buy a bag of 00 capsules at the health food store.
If you are sensitive to salt you can buy up to 500 mg doses of a combination of calcium carbonate, potassium carbonate, such as Tri-Salts, or any other product that is designed to aid pH - just read the label and make sure it has the right ingredients. If it is 500 mg, you can take two doses a day for a few days but one should do you just fine.
The reaction for me is immediate. You may get nausea, burning stomach, burning shoulders, and lots of miscellaneous aches and pains all around your body as acids are being shed. Within 2-3 days you should feel relief from a lot of your icky aches and pains. They just disappear!
For best results, be eating a cleansing/candida diet at the same time, or a juice fast. Basically your diet should be reduced-calorie, all whole foods, lots of veggies, adequate but not excessive protein sources, reduced dairy (eggs and kefir are fine).
It is best to do this therapy apart from any other therapy so you can be sure that the results are due to the baking soda and nothing else, and so you can be sure that you're not negating the action of any of your expensive tinctures. You can still do enemas, detox baths, lymph management, detox teas, but avoid taking lots of other supplements. One thing you could do is take acidophilus at the same time as the baking soda, as neutralizing your stomach acids ensures that more will survive their way into the small intestine.
