Hello,
I was wondering if you can make Kefir with goat milk. The goat milk I see in the grocery store is pasteurized, but organic. I read somewhere that goat milk is naturally homogenized, so you don't need to worry about the homogenization aspect of it. Is this true? The goat milk I see in the store doesn't say anything about homogenization on it. Thank you, I appreciate it.

Hey... I thought the same thing... that goat's milk is never mechanically homogenized. But that's not true. I found out that in Canada, goat's milk is always homogenized. I don't know about the States or other countries. You'll probably have to contact the company to find out.
If it's only pasteurized, then it's fine to use it to make kefir. |

Hey kaleidoscope,
I just got an email back from the company. Yeah, they homogenize it a 1500 psi... whatever that means. The pasteurization is at 168F for 20 seconds... I don't think thats great either. Geez, its so hard to find good milk . I don't like Health Canada. The laws about milk here suck. They also promote irradiation for meats, to name a couple of their many faults. Well, thanks so much for the input, let the search continue...

So is all the cow's millk in your country homogenised too? That's no good!
I just bought 2 pints of whole organic cow's milk yesterday to make Kefir for the first time ... it's pasteurised but not homogenised so that will do until I get raw milk ...
wish me luck! |
