Hi Shelley Very Happy ,

I need some help with my bowels. Here's the story: I have systemic candida. I have been on the candida diet for 4 1/2 months. I began using an enema bucket about a month ago. I believe my bowels became dependent on it. It was easy to rely on the bucket when I saw that I was making progress with the candida and the mucoid plaque...

Anyway I stopped using the enema bucket three days ago. I took senna tea, flaxseed and did a vitamin c flush to try to get things moving because they had not moved for a day and a half. My bowels are moving somewhat, but they don't seem to have much strength (they have been under-used Sad My bowels did not move well before the use of the enema bucket.

At present, I am using the P&B shakes (currently without the bentonite) 3x daily. I feel very bloated and I am passing gas that is beginning to smell very bad! The gas movements sound very loud and I can feel them all over my stomac/colon/intestine/ bowel area. I feel huge, but I am only small! I know there is much bowel movement material in my system (colon and bowel area).

I am taking livtone as you suggested for my liver so I don't know if my liver is releasing toxins or if it is food matter fermenting that is causing the bad smell. It is disappointing to know that the candida is probably getting stuff to feed off, but I know I need to exercise and strengthen my bowels. Can you tell me what I should be doing in the short-term to get good bowel movements and the long term that won't feed the candida?

In advance Thank you Shelley,
It's great to know that you are back in business!! Very Happy

Hi Alex! Welcome to the forum, it's great to see you here. Smile

Okay, when your bowels aren't moving and you're experiencing gas, it's best not to eat any fiber at all for awhile, just stick to liquids, preferably broths that are very spicy and digestive teas like ginger, peppermint, India Spice.

Also, it sounds to me like your bowels need some toning therapy, which means aloe vera juice 3x a day if you can find some at the health food store. Make sure it's the liquid and not the gel.

Psyllium is not a good fiber for candida people unless it's mixed iwth something else because it DOES ferment a bit! yikes! so stop taking that! Better fibers for candida people are carrot and flax. See the recipe for the liver cleansing carrot salad.

Sounds like Senna doesn't react well either, which is the same with me. Other people go tons on Senna, I just get cramps and NOTHING HAPPENS. It's so weird. But that's how we are! all different. I do great with cascara sagrada, so I tend to keep on hand Sonne's Perfect 7 Intestinal Cleanser. It has psyllium, but it's also got cayenne, marshmallow, cascara sagrada, etc., so it moves very very quickly and always works. So consider getting something like that PLUS consider getting Triphala. Triphala is the only laxative that actually strengthens the bowels and has anti-fungal properties so you can take a lot of it safely.

When there's a case of sluggish, weak bowels, that can mean:

-proplapsed colon (see the FAQ)
-deficiency in choline/lecithin so not enough neurotransmitter to induce peristaltic action (take lecithin/choline supplements)
-tissues need toning/tightening (aloe and massage)
-need a squatting position for elimination
-weak liver not giving up enough bile, or not enough oils to force the liver to give up bile (start taking a spoonful of olive oil or antoher good oil 3x a day)

HI shelley Smile

Thanks for the information!! I hope the local health food store has Triphala and Sonne's Perfect 7 Intestinal Cleanser. I want it on hand for the next time! LOL!! I was so constipated and I did have the enema bucket but I knew I had to stop using it sometime Crying or Very sad How long should one wait before taking either of these helpful aides?

How should one use enemas? I have heard that some people simply do an enema after their bowels move. If I did this -- it seems like there wouldn't be enough of a build-up (bowel material) for the next bowel movement.

In advance thanks again Shelley Smile

The general guideline is you should have at least one BM a day, and if you do not go for some kind of intervention. If you're having at least one, don't bother with intervention, let the body do what it can and get stronger. Triphala and oils and are the big exception to this rule.

First thing in the morning AFTER a regular bowel movement. Enemas are not supposed to replace normal bowel movements, they are simply meant to either flush the colon free of anything stuck, allow you to retain medicines or nutrients for more direct absorption, and to flush the liver. Lots of toxins manage to escape the feces and line the walls of the intestines. They are usually yellow. When you do a good flushing enema, you release these yellow toxins - even after a perfectly healthy bowel movement! So there's still plenty of 'stuff' left after a regular BM.

You can do them at night if you skip dinner or eat a very early dinner.
