Hey Shelley and friends!
I gave myself a colonic today and noticed that I have gobs of white/yellowish mucous. I tend to think it is newer stuff, due to some kind of intestinal irritation. I have noticed it the last few colonics I have done, too (within the last month). My diet is so incredibly hypoallergenic, the only thing I can suspect is the psyllium I have been taking the last few months to help while I am doing my liver cleanse.
What do you think? I am a bit concerned with the amount of mucous I am seeing. It just isn't right.
Thank you!!!
Shawna

Hey Shawnamarie,
Personally, I don't do well with psyllium. It tends to clog my gut, rather than cleanse it. It could be mixing/interfering with the food you eat, causing mucus.
If you've been taking it for months, you might want to switch to ground flax. I don't know if you can develop an allergy/intolerance to psyllium, but a change couldn't hurt.
Hope that helps! |

You can develop an allergy to psyllium, but it usually takes weeks of use. If psyllium is not combined with other things like mucilogious herbs and flax, it is very very irritating, not at all friendly.
If you can see lots of mucus being released from your intestines, then you have to consider the following:
A stricture causing blockage, or diverticulitis, or both. The body then produces mucus to protect the impaired areas.
Parasites or other irritation like foods that sit too long or are scratchy. The irritation will cause the body to produce more mucus.
Lack of Vitamin A and other Skin Food. Lack of Vitamin A makes the tissues weaker, and so the body gives them more protection - more mucus. Lack of protein, particularly L-glutamine, will do the same thing.
Hope that helps! |

Thanks, Shelley.
I have been taking a product with psyllium and mucilogious herbs for about 3 or 4 months now, hence my suspicion.
I don't know about the stricture or diverticulitis. Wouldn't there be some pain or discomfort involved with those? I haven't noticed any. I know my transit time has been pretty good, though I do happen to know that I have parasites. I plan on kicking off a parasite cleanse at the end of this month. What is interesting is that I have noticed the amount of mucus released to increase with the increased intensity of my liver cleanse.
I get a good deal of Vitamin A and skin food. If anything, I would suspect that I am not absorbing it all.
Thanks again!

Thanks, hoppy!
I am definitely going to make the switch to flax and see how that changes things.
