Hi Shelley! Glad I found you, and congratulations on your new site!
I seem to be having this strange problem when I'm sleeping. I always sleep on my sides, but in the last few days, I'm feeling like the circulation is being cut off in my arms (whichever side I sleep on). Any pressure will cut off my circulation in a few minutes, and then I feel numbness in my arms, till finally I get the "Pins & Needles" feeling. I have slept this way for 36 years and never felt this. I tried sleeping on my back and stomach, but I think sleeping standing up would be more comfortable than that!
I stayed up most of the night last night tossing from one side to the other until I felt the tingling sensation. I was afraid that if I fell asleep and my circulation was cut off for 7-8 hours....I would die!
Could this be the begginings of Diabetes? (I don't have Diabetes now)
Thanks! |

Hiya Healthnut! So glad you found the new site. Welcome!
I doubt it has anything to do with diabetes as that would affect all the extremities and your entire day as well. Since it only happens at night and involves numbing and not just tingling, I'd say it's an uncomfortable mattress. how old is your mattress? See if you can consult wtih a good chiropractor. The first visit is often free, especially if you get a spine analysis at a fair or convention.
You can test your back for subluxions by rolling on a flat, not too hard but not too soft surface. Simply sit down, hug your knees to your chest, and roll back and forth on your spine. Be careful to not get hurt! it should not be painful. Do this in a very quiet place and listen/feel carefully your spine while you do it. Do you hear any pops of things going back into place?
After that, sit up straight, and stretch your neck. Use your right hand to pull your head down to the right as if your ear is going to touch your shoulder. Do the same to the other side. Slowly and carefully do a neck roll. Any pops?
Then try and sleep on a different surface that night after you stretch and pop your spine. Perhaps a couch? And see if the problem returns.
Also, do you have any other circulation issues? Do you yawn a lot, get a bit of brain fog, spider veins, fat deposits that are out of proportion? You may need to do a Vitamin C flush followed by the Cleansing Drink with Cayenne Pepper Tincture. Blood thinners like garlic, ginger, ginseng, astralagus may also be a good idea.
Sleeping on the side is the very best position for the spine. If the mattress is good sleeping on the back is fine. Sleeping on the stomach does not support the spine at all. |
