I find taking olive oil with food or straight from the spoon really helps me with my bowel movements, however i sometimes get stools that float. I remember reading that this means the meal wasnt digested properly due to either a wrong combination of foods or the liver isnt giving up enough bile to digest the fats or there was too much fat eaten at once.
I wondered when the best time was for taking olive oil from a spoon as a supplement?
Sometimes i take a tbsp half an hour before a meal so as to release some bile to help digest the following meal.
I wondered though whether this was a good idea if that following meal contains other types of oil/fats, i.e sunflower oil or pumpkin seeds, butter etc.
Is it ok to mix fats Shelley? |

Floating stool doesn't *necessarily* mean that the meal wasn't digested properly - it can be due to several factors.
The only time you know for sure that your stools are floating due to fat is after a liver flush when you have run-out of bile and you produce pale, floaty stools.
Mixing fats is fine as most fats are themselves mixtures.
My favourite is mixing butter and coconut oil - you get all the goodness of coconut oil without the excessive taste. |

oh yum! butter/coconut and butter/olive are my faves. and have you tried European style butter? OH my goodness it's soooo good.
Taking a spoonful of oil 1-3x a day is one of the best aids for healthy elimination because you need oils anyway. You can take it alone, with a bit of juice or with a meal. If you're already cooking a meal with oil, simply use a bit more with the meal and take the extra oil another time.
Since gallstones tend to form due to stagnation, I try to take in a bit of oil (usually my dose of cod liver oil) in the early morning especially if I'm eating a non-fat breakfast. Skipping breakfast lengthens your "fasting" time for the day and that tends to encourage gallstone creation. It's one of the reasosn why women tend to create gallstones more than men. The oil solves that problem.
If the floating stools look slick and shiny, that means undigested fats. I find that my salad meals almost always float because the veggie fibers are light, like wood, and I'll bet that some of the oil gets trapped by fiber and doesn't entirely break down, but that I don't worry about. |

Ok, so can i use olive oil instead of flax oil in the protein/egg shake as i react badly to flaxseed oil.
Also when taking fish oils is it ok to take them AM with say hot cereals(carb grains) or first thing on an empty stomach?
Thanks again Shelley |

yep, yep.
Fish oils aren't that tasty, so I tend to take them by their lonesome and just get it over quick. You can use butter with your hot cereals, it tastes better.
You can try coconut oil in the protein shake, it tends to clump up the lecithin tho when I do it so I tend to just eat it off the spoon and then drink the rest of the protein shake. |

MMHHHHH coconut oil
Also after a flush, say for the rest of that day and the day after should i avoid added fats due to the liver releasing so much bile and needing to re-stock its self? |
