Any suggestions for grains that won't put me to sleep or make me gorge?
Right now the extent of my grain consumption is 2 slices of Ezekiel bread a day. The problem I have with grains like quinoa and rice is that they make me verrrrry sleeeeepy. And rice is addictive! Once I take a bite, I can't stop eating it.
I'm pitta-vata, very active, don't like being sleepy. Any ideas? Anyone have a favorite unusual grain recipe?
Thanks! |

| I buy whole oat groats from whole foods and soak them overnight then I cook them in the morning and they are so filling that I am not even hungry for 5-6 hrs...and I have a ravenous appetite!!! They are so tasty too...I heard they're also good in breaking down bile and lowering cholesterol. I wouldnt buy rolled, processed oats but the whole ones. They are so satisfying! |

Well you must make kichadi, that as an essential recipe. It is spiced so completely that your physical and emotional eating needs are met very quickly because all of the taste buds are tantalized, and it's very very easy to digest so you don't get tired, you get energized, and it doesn't create a lot of metabolic wastes. It cleanses and makes you more alkaline.
My favorite hot cereals are Bob's Red Mill Brown Rice farina, which is great served like oatmeal with rice milk, cinnamon, flax seed and brown rice syrup, and Lundberg's Almond Rice Cereal. Sweetened with just enough molasses so no sugar blues.
I skip grains totally at least 3-4 days a week. That way, on the days I do have them, I can go to town. Rice medley pilaf, pasta, yum! |
