Hey there,

I finally figured out how to post here...I'm catching on;)

Anyway, I have bacterial pneumonia and have chosen to take antibiotics for it (on day five of Ketec). They make me feel a little sick, so I take them with a fair amount of food.

The day after I started them, I felt better and the stabbing pain in my ribs went away. Now that pain is back in a different spot, and I'm concerned.

Can you give me tips on what else I should do here? I'm kind of confused...do I take a probiotic at teh same time, or after I'm done with the antibiotics?

Also, is there stuff I should be doing right now?

Thank you,
Karen

Hi Karen! Welcome to the forum, I hope you find your stay pleasant and educational! Smile

Yes, there are LOTS of things you should be doing, absolutely! First of all, avoid all stress as much as possible! That means avoiding toxic people and even avoiding scary movies. Your body and mind needs to be kept calm while healing from pneumonia, because it affects the lungs which are SO important, takes tons and tons of your energy reserves. So RELAX. Get a massage even, it will help your lymphs.

You should be following an immune-supporting diet. That means no junk foods, convenience foods, not many raw/cold foods, NO iced drinks, no refined sugar (honey, maple syrup, molasses are okay). If you read the Candida diet guidelines in the Candida forum - it's one of the top posts - that's a good diet to follow for about a month. When the pneumonia is beat you should keep up with the probiotics and start tonifying (eating very nutritious foods like the Kefir Protein Shake with nutritional yeast flakes).

Yes, you should be taking probiotics, a combination of Primal Defense and lots of organic, unsweetened Kefir (see my Kefir Protein Shake recipes - you really need the nourishment) is essential to balancing out the ramifications of the antibiotics.

Antibiotics are very hard on the kidneys, so you should be drinking no less than 6 large glasses of fluids a day, preferably as Herbal Tea and my Cleansing Drink. Try to drink at least 3 Cleansing Drinks a day, preferably warmed. These drinks should be in between meals, do not drink with meals unless it's a small cup of digestive aid tea like peppermint with lemon.

Please read about Lymph Management in the FAQ. Just click on the word "FAQ" up above, then click on the link (underlined words) that says Lymph Management and start reading the page that pops up underneath. Do whatever you can out of that list.

Also consider how and why you got the pneumonia in the first place. Have you been subsisting on junk food? Taking a lot of antacids? For future health, please read the Vital Health Management section in the FAQ, particularly the Power of Digestion, and Diet Management, etc.

Good luck to you! Smile

Hi Shelley,

I'm sorry, I just can't find the recipes that you're talking about...i.e. the cleansing drink, kefir protein shake. Can you point me to the link?

Is is okay to have a fair amount of protein (given the antibiotics and my kidneys) as long as I'm drinking water?

Thanks,
Karen

A high-protein diet should be accompanied by lots of fluids and calcium supplements in order to remain alkaline. Calcium is best taken with magnesium at a 2 to 1 ratio. Some supplements add in Zinc and that's a good idea. For bone building you have to have D too. I recommend Cal-Mag Fizz (see Sources forum) or Solaray's Cal-Mag-Zinc.

For recipes, just click on the FAQ then click on the link towards the bottom that says "Essential Recipes." Then you'll see a link for Beverages/Protein Shakes etc and that's where all the drinks are. Smile

Here's a quickie link:
